Ekta Kapoor Career

Kapoor began her professional life at the age of seventeen as an intern for feature and commercial filmmaker Kailash Surendranath. Under her own banner, Balaji Telefilms, she was a producer, having secured funding from her father. Six of her pilot episodes were rejected, making her first projects a complete failure and costing her ₹50 lakh (about ₹2.0 crore or US$250,000 in 2023).

Doordarshan picked her music-based show Dhun Dhamaka in 1995, while Zed TV picked Mano Ya Na Mano. Her first hit show, Hum Paanch, debuted in 1995.

The letter “K” became her lucky alphabet in the 2000s, and she began a number of episodes with the same letter as the first word in the titles, such as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, which surpassed all previous records to become the series with the highest TRPs in 2000. Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki, Kabhii Sautan Kabhii Sahelii, Kohi Apna Sa, Kaahin Kissii Roz, Kalash, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Kahiin To Hoga, and Kasamh Se are some other programmes that start with the letter “K.” She received the Best Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2001.

Mission Istanbul and EMI – Liya Hai Toh Chukana Padhega, which worked with Sunil Shetty, came next. None of these films was a box office or critic’s favourite.
