Born on January 29, 1970, Colonel Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, AVSM, is a former colonel from the Indian Army, an Olympic shooter, and an Indian politician. Since 2014, Rathore has served as a member of parliament for the Jaipur Rural seat in the Lok Sabha.

Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore took home 25 international double trap shooting medals from various competitions, including a silver in the men’s double trap event at the 2004 Summer Olympics.
Before retiring as a colonel in 2013, Rathore was a commissioned officer in the Indian Army’s Grenadiers unit. After leaving the army and taking up shooting, he was elected to the parliament in 2014 as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore was appointed Minister of State for Broadcasting and Information in November 2014. From 2017 through 2019 , Rathore was a Cabinet minister in charge of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports alone.

Colonel Lakshman Singh Rathore (Retd.) and Manju Rathore welcomed Rathore into the world on January 29, 1970, in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.
His academic background includes a B.A., a Grading Tactics (YO) Course, and Instructor-Weapons (MMG, AGL, Small Arms). He received his education at the Infantry School in Mhow and the National Defence Academy in Pune.
On February 16, 1997, he wed Gayatri Rathore, an Indian Army physician by training. They have a daughter and a boy.

Rathore is a National Defence Academy 77th Course graduate. Rathore entered the Indian Military Academy after completing his training in the NDA, where he was named the best all-around Gentleman Cadet and given the Sword of Honour. In addition, he received the Sikh Regiment Gold Medal, which is given to the top athlete in the competition.

On December 15, 1990, he was commissioned into the 9th Grenadiers (Mewar) Regiment. On December 15, 1992, he was promoted to lieutenant, and on December 15, 1995, he was promoted to captain. After participating in the Kargil War, Rathore was elevated to the rank of major on December 15, 2000. During his tenure in the Indian Army, he took part in counterterrorism operations while stationed in Jammu and Kashmir. For exceptional efforts, his unit received both the Governor of J&K’s and the Army Chief’s Citations On December 16, 2004, he was promoted to lieutenant-colonel , and on May 1, 2009, he attained his ultimate rank of colonel
Rathore set a new Commonwealth Games Record of 192 targets out of 200 at the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games, where he earned a gold medal. The record is still in place. Along with Moraad Ali Khan, he also took home the Team Gold Medal. Rathore went on to win the gold medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, successfully defending his title of Commonwealth Champion. In the team competition, he and Vikram Bhatnagar also took home the silver. In two World Shooting Championships, in Sydney in 2004 and Cairo in 2006, he took home gold medals.
After winning the silver medal in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Rathore gained notoriety. It was India’s first-ever Olympic individual silver medal.
In the 2006 World Championship, which was restricted to the top 12 shooters worldwide, Rathore took home a bronze medal. For the most of 2003 and 2004, he was ranked third in the world; however, he briefly moved up to the top spot in the beginning of 2004 and then to second place following the Olympics in Athens. After almost 40 years away, he brought home a silver medal for India at the 2003 World Championship in Sydney.
Since Bikaner’s Karni Singh took home a silver medal at the 1962 World Shooting Championship in Cairo, India had not seen a victor. From 2003 to 2006, Rathore is known for having won the gold medal in the Asian Clay Target four times in a row. In addition, he won an individual bronze medal in the Doha Asian Games in 2006.
Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore won 25 international medals for Double Trap at different events between 2002 and 2006.
Rathore competed in and won gold in the 2011 Asian Clay Target Championship in Kuala Lumpur. His 194 in the competition matches the world record.
Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore Career In Politics
After retiring from the Indian Army on September 10, 2013, Rathore became a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, he won the Jaipur Rural constituency and became an MP. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore took the oath of office as the Narendra Modi administration’s Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting on November 9, 2014. September 3, 2017, saw his appointment as the Minister of Sports. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore was appointed Minister of State (I/C) for Information and Broadcasting in May 2018. Rathore ran in the November 2023 Rajasthan elections from the Jhotwara Assemnly seat.
