On November 1, 1966, Padmini Kolhapure, the second of Pandharinath Kolhapure’s three daughters by his wife Nirupama Kolhapure, was born into a Marathi and Konkani household. Shivangi Kolhapure, a former actress, is her elder sister. She was married to actor Shakti Kapoor and is the mother of actors Siddhanth and Shraddha Kapoor. Tejaswini Kolhapure, her younger sister, is also an actor.

She and her sister Shivangi performed in the chorus of several childhood movies, including Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Kitaab, and Dushman Dost.
