Chhaya Kadam won the Maharashtra State Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for the last of these. Kadam’s roles in the 2024 comedy-drama films Madgaon Express and Laapataa Ladies helped her become more well-known.

Chhaya Kadam Childhood

In the Kalina neighbourhood of downtown Mumbai, Chhaya Kadam was born into a middle-class family. Her dad worked in mills. She mentioned her father as one of Sai Baba’s trustees. Chhaya Kadam Career

Chhaya started out in theatre before switching to movies in 2009. She made her theatrical debut performing Zulva by Waman Kendre. Baimanus (2010), her debut feature, was never distributed. Films such Kuni Ghar Deta Ka Ghar (2013), Baboo Band Baaja (2011), and Mi Sindhutai Sapkal (2010) came after this. In Singham Returns (2013), her first Hindi film, she shared a single scene with Ajay Devgn.

Her breakout performance was in Nagraj Manjule’s 2013 film Fandry. Critics praised her portrayal of Nani in the national award-winning movie. After that, she starred in Gour Hari Dastaan (2015) and Highway (2015).

Chhaya Kadam acted in Nagraj Manjule’s second film, Sairat, in 2016. The movie received a great deal of praise from critics. In the movie, she played a Hyderabadi Telugu woman who owns a dosa shop. On this occasion, she picked up Telugu from the cameramen. Chhaya Kadam was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress – Marathi Filmfare Award. The movie was well-received by critics when it was released, and Kadam was praised for her portrayal. At the 2018 New York Indian Film Festival, the movie went on to take home the Best Film trophy. After that, she starred in Redu, which received multiple nominations for the 56th Maharashtra State Film Awards and was screened at numerous well-known international film festivals. Chhaya Kadam has a significant part in both Zelya (2018) and Andhadhun (2018).

Chhaya Kadam acted in Aatpadi Nights in 2019. She was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress – Marathi Filmfare Award. She debuted on television in Mere Sai (2020) and in the second season of the web series Hutatma.

2022 saw her initial release. After the trailer for Nay Varanbhat Loncha Kon Nay Koncha was released, criticism erupted. A complaint was received by the National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson from Bharatiya Stree Shakti, stating that the film’s trailer “depicted women and minors in an offensive manner,” prompting a request to censor the trailer in writing to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B). The film received praise for her acting and awards for having a realistic plot when it was released. “Chhaya Kadam, who is playing the role of Baye, has left us speechless with her acting skills,” remarked Maharashtra Times writer Kalpeshraj Kubal.

Her vocal exchanges and body language elevate the part to a new level. She had a significant role in the experimental drama Soyrik. The critically praised Hindi flicks Jhund and Gangubai Kathiawadi were her following two releases. In the former, she plays Rashmibai, Alia Bhatt’s competitor for the title character. Her third partnership with Nagraj Manjule was the latter. She portrayed Vijay Borade, the wife of Amitabh Bachchan’s character. were some of the other films that year. Her next role was in Laapataa Ladies, directed by Kiran Rao.

Rupesh Paul’s neo noir experimental Pedigree (2023) is her next project. It’s billed as the first silent Indian film since the post-sound era.
