Sharma attended The Lawrence School in Sanawar for his last education before moving to Apeejay School in Jalandhar to finish Classes 11 and 12. From ITFT Chandigarh, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Media, Entertainment, and Film Technology.

In 2013, Sharma made his screen debut in Mrighdeep Singh Lamba’s comedy-drama Fukrey, his first Bollywood production. With global earnings of ₹49 crore (US$8.9 million), it became a commercial success.[Reference required]

Sharma made his screen debut in 2015 in the comedy Dolly Ki Doli directed by Abhishek Dogra. Varun Sharma then starred alongside Kapil Sharma in the popular romantic comedy Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon. With Shah Rukh Khan, Varun Dhawan, Kajol, and Kriti Sanon, Rohit Shetty’s action romance Dilwale was his last movie of the year and it broke multiple box office records, making it his highest-grossing release. Sharma appeared in Dinesh Vijan’s reincarnation romance Raabta (2017) with Kriti Sanon and the late Sushant Singh Rajput. His next movie, Roohi, co-starring Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor, was directed by Hardik Mehta and produced by Dinesh Vijan under the Maddock Films banner . In 2021, it was released. Following Roohi’s premiere, rumours began to circulate that Varun Sharma’s late manager, Disha Salian, had been named in the end credits. Disha had overseen Varun during the film’s production.
