seasoned performer and filmmaker (2005–2010)

Rediff.com said in 2005 that Khan had made a name for himself as one of the top actors in Hindi cinema, having starred in two films: Salaam Namaste, a comedy-drama, and the love drama Parineeta. Parineeta, directed by Pradeep Sarkar, was an adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s 1914 Bengali novella of the same name. It told the story of the love between an idealist (Lalita, Vidya Balan) and a musician (Shekhar, Khan), who was the son of a capitalist businessman.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the film’s producer, thought Khan was too inexperienced for the character, but Sarkar convinced him that Khan was ideal for it. Following its premiere, the movie received positive reviews from critics, and Khan was nominated twice for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his performance in it. I’m honing my technique and learning what acting and communication are all about.”In Rangoon (2017), his second film with director Vishal Bhardwaj, an epic romance set during World War II, he got such a character. Working with Menon brought Khan joy, and he related to the movie’s “modern, slightly unorthodox take on relationships”.
