Lisa Mishra is an American actor, singer, and songwriter. Her rendition of the song Tareefan in the 2018 Indian film Veere Di Wedding is her most well-known performance. Ever since, she has contributed to songs such as ‘The Wakhra Song’ from the 2019 movie Judgementall Hai Kya, ‘Nadaaniyaan’ from the movie The Sky Is Pink, and the upbeat hit ‘Chandigarh Mein’ from Good Newsz.

Mishra grew up in Chicago after being born in Berhampur, Odisha. She earned her degree from Bloomington, Illinois’ Illinois Wesleyan University. with a double degree in religion and economics , and has experience conducting research at Harvard University’s Pluralism Project in Cambridge, Massachusetts, as well as the Andrew Mellon Foundation. In 2007, at the age of thirteen, she launched her own YouTube account.
She sang backup on the song “All We Got” from Chance the Rapper’s Grammy-winning album “Coloring Book (mixtape)”—her first studio experience. Additionally, Lisa received credit as a songwriter and vocalist on the songs “I Love You So Much” by DJ Khaled featuring Chance the Rapper and “Single No More” by Chance the Rapper.

Mishra and Jamila Woods worked together to write the Emmy-nominated web series Brown Girls’ theme tune in 2017. She sang a mashup of Let Me Love You and the Hindi song Tareefan in a video that she posted to Instagram on May 19, 2018. Sonam Kapoor Ahuja was drawn to the mashup and Mishra was flown to India to record and film the reprise version of the song for Veere Di Wedding alongside the other actors.
Mishra secured a non-film music deal with VYRL Originals, a division of Universal Music India, in 2019. She worked with singer-composer Vishal Mishra on “Sajna Ve” in May 2019. Additionally, Mishra contributed vocals to the February 2020 release of ‘Running Back To You,’ an upbeat dance/house single produced by DJ Anish Sood, a Goa-based producer.
‘Sorry, I’m Late,’ her debut album, delves deeply into Lisa’s journey through a distinctive fusion of Western pop and Indian music. It was released by the artist in May of 2024. It is an anthology of tales with a strong female perspective that tackle issues of love, loss, loneliness, rage, and redemption. With this project, Lisa establishes herself as a legitimate songwriter, taking the lead and earning composition and lyrical credits in addition to helping with music production and video direction.
