Sandeep Reddy Vanga, an Indian film director, screenwriter, and editor who works in Telugu and Hindi cinema, was born on December 25, 1981. In 2017, Vanga made his Telugu film directorial and screenwriting debut with Arjun Reddy, starring Vijay Deverakonda. It was a financial hit and made him famous.

With Shahid Kapoor in the lead role in the Hindi-language remake Kabir Singh (2019), he maintained his success. One of the all-time highest-grossing Hindi films is Kabir Singh. With the release of his next action-drama, Animal in Hindi, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Vanga’s profile grew. It shattered multiple box office records and became the 9th highest-grossing Indian picture ever as well as the highest-grossing A (adults only) rated Indian film ever.

2005–2012: In 2005, Vanga spent 25 days working as an apprentice at Rushikonda Beach in Vizag for the movie Manasu Maata Vinadhu. He contributed to a few Tollywood productions, such as Malli Malli Idi Rani Roju (2015) as an associate director with Kranthi Madhav and Kedi (2010) as an assistant director with Kiran Kumar. His first screenplay was for a movie called Sugar Factory, which he intended to direct, but he ultimately put it on hold and began writing the story for Arjun Reddy.
2013–2017: First-time director and accolades
Vanga completed the script for Arjun Reddy in two years, having begun work on it in 2013. Sharwanand and producer Swapna Dutt expressed interest in producing and acting in the movie, but things did not work out as planned because Sharwanand had a lot of other projects on his plate at the time. A mutual friend introduced him to Vijay Deverakonda. He gave him the lead role in Arjun Reddy, his first film as director. After receiving positive reviews upon its August 25, 2017 release, the movie went on to become a huge smash. Despite having a meagre ₹4-5 crores budget, it managed to make over ₹50 crores (US$8 million) at the box office.

But because it showed smoking and drug usage, the censor board was always getting in the way of it when it first came out. It also caused a stir with its kissing sequences and poster, which the Telangana Film Chamber later cleared. V. Hanumantha Rao, a senior political figure, became enraged over the movie’s placement relative to the audience. He continued by openly removing the movie’s posters and advising viewers not to watch such movies.
2018–present: Current projects
The next year, Vanga appeared in the biographical film Mahanati in a cameo role as Vedantam Raghavayya. It was announced that same year that Vanga himself would be directing Kabir Singh, the Hindi adaptation of Arjun Reddy. Shahid Kapoor was signed on as the main actor. Kiara Advani was cast as the main female character. Ashwin Warde and Murad Khetani produced the movie, and the original film’s rights were bought for ₹15 million. Filming started in July 2018 and ended on June 21, 2019. The film became a significant box office hit, grossing over 379 crores worldwide and over 278 crores net domestically in India, making it into the 200 crore club.

Vanga’s next film, Animal, is a gangster movie with Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role. It was confirmed in January 2021. Cine1Studios, Bhadrakhali Pictures, and T-Series produced it. Spirit, his upcoming film, was revealed in October 2021. Prabhas will be starring in his 25th movie, which T-Series and Bhadrakali Pictures are producing together. Later, he said that in March 2023, he would be directing his fifth film, which will follow Spirit. Allu Arjun will play the lead role in the movie, which T-Series and Bhadrakali Pictures are producing together.
