Tere Liye, a 2001 box office bomb starring Arjun Punj, marked the beginning of Shilpa’s career. She had a little part in Na Tum Jaano Na Hum in 2002. She took part in Survivor India in 2012. Saklani and her spouse Apurva took part in the seventh season of Colours TV’s Bigg Boss in 2013. She managed to survive for five weeks before facing eviction.

In 2004, Saklani wed Apurva Agnihotri, an actor from television and films. The pair possesses a daughter.
