Navya Singh was born in a village in the Katihar District of Bihar into a traditional Sikh family. When she was a teenager, she started to identify as female due to her gender dysphoria. After relocating to Mumbai in 2011, she adopted the first name Navya. She briefly lived with a relative who did not agree with her gender identity before relocating to Mumbai and beginning a career as a dancer. Her mother traveled to Mumbai to support her during the sex reassignment surgery procedure when she made the decision to undergo it.

Navya Singh performed as a dancer in movies and television shows before turning into a model. Navya Singh made television appearances in the 2017 Monica Dogra music video Shiver and the Life OK Channel criminal series Savdhaan India.[citation needed]. Navya Singh has blasted the Indian film industry for portraying cisgender actors as transgender people, refusing to cast transgender men and women in roles traditionally associated with men and women, and for depicting transgender people as “…objects of ridicule, or lust not love” in Bollywood films.
Creating Models
Navya Singh made her modeling debut in 2016 at Lakme Fashion Week, where she was the lone transgender participant. She has modeled clothing created by Archana Kochhar and Wendell Rodricks. Navya Singh represented Miss Transqueen India, a transgender beauty pageant, as a brand ambassador in 2018.
