Vijay is one of the most financially successful performers in Tamil cinema, having appeared in several of the highest-grossing Tamil films ever as well as being among the highest paid actors in India.

Director S. A. Chandrasekhar, who was born in Madras, first cast Vijay as a child actor in the 1984 Tamil film Vetri. At the age of eighteen, he landed his first starring role in the 1992 film Naalaiya Theerpu, following several child appearances in his father’s productions. For the next few years, Vijay kept playing lead roles with varying degrees of success. Notable films that he starred in were Poove Unakkaga, Love Today, Kadhalukku Mariyadhai, Thulladha Manamum Thullum, and Kushi. In 1998, the Tamil Nadu government bestowed upon him the title of Kalaimaamani.

With the success of Thirupaachi and Pokkiri, he went on to become one of the most prominent and lucrative performers in Tamil cinema. In 2003, he starred in Ghilli, which became the first Tamil film to gross over ₹500 million. After a period of mediocre success, Vijay began appearing in a number of critically and commercially successful films in the late 2010s, such as Sarkar, Thuppakki, and Kaththi. As an actor, he’s received numerous accolades.

Vijay Childhood And Family

On June 22, 1974, Vijay was born as Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar in Madras, Tamil Nadu (now Chennai). His mother, Shoba Chandrasekhar, is a playback singer and vocalist, while his father, S. A. Chandrasekhar, is a film director. His mother is Hindu, and his father is Christian. Vidhya, Vijay’s sister, passed away at the age of two. Vijay attended Balalok School in Virugambakkam after finishing his education at Fathima School in Kodambakkam. Vijay attended Loyola College to get a bachelor’s degree in visual communication.

Vijay Career In Film

In the 1984 P. S. Veerappa-produced Tamil film Vetri, Vijay made his acting debut at the age of ten. Later, he appeared in films like Kudumbam (1984), Vasantha Raagam (1986), Sattam Oru Vilayaattu (1987), and Ithu Engal Neethi (1988) as a kid actor. Directed by his father, he also appeared in Naan Sigappu Manithan (1985) in a supporting role alongside Rajinikanth.

In 1992, Vijay portrayed the main character in Naalaiya Theerpu for the first time. After that, Vijay starred in a number of successful films, including Senthoorapandi, Rasigan, Deva, and Coimbatore Mappillai. Vijay claims that Vijay’s 1996 performance in Vikraman’s Poove Unakkaga was the catalyst for his initial breakthrough and rise to fame. 2003–11: Financial prosperity and celebrity

After starring in the action-romance Thirumalai in 2003, Vijay featured in S. Dharani’s Ghilli, which also starred Trisha and Prakash Raj. The film was a commercial hit, breaking the record for the most people to see a film in its first week of release, which was previously held by M. G. Ramachandran’s Adimai Penn (1969). It also became the first Tamil film to gross over ₹500 million at the domestic box office. Vijay acted in Madhurey and Thirupaachi in 2005 after that.

His 50th picture as an actor was the action comedy Sura, which he starred in in 2010. With a domestic box office haul of over ₹121 crore, the movie made Vijay’s career the most successful one to date and became the third Tamil film to accomplish so. A. L. Vijay’s next film, Thalaivaa, was released in August 2013 to a mixed reception. Vijay starred in the successful 2014 box office film Jilla. One of the highest-grossing Tamil films of 2014 was Vijay’s action movie Kaththi, which racked up ₹130 crore at the box office and garnered favourable reviews.
Career in politics

Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, his fan club, was founded in 2009. In the 2011 assembly elections, the group backed the AIADMK coalition. In October 2021, the fan club organisation ran for local body elections in Tamil Nadu and won 115 of the 169 seats up for grabs. Vijay declared the formation of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, his political party, on February 2, 2024.

According to political commentators, the TVK party may soon start to expand into other Indian states, particularly the north. The Citizenship Amendment Act 2019, which was passed by the BJP government, was deemed unacceptable by Vijay because it will upset the country’s social-religious peace.

Vijay Personal Life

On August 25, 1999, Vijay wed Sangeetha, a Tamil woman from Sri Lanka. Their two children are a daughter named Divya who made an appearance in her father’s Theri and a son named Sanjay who had a cameo alongside his father in Vettaikaaran.
