On December 24, 1956 in Chembur, Nirmal Kapoor and film producer Surinder Kapoor welcomed Kapoor into their Punjabi Hindu family. He is the second of four children. Sanjay Kapoor is an actor, while Boney Kapoor, his older brother, is a producer of motion pictures. Boney’s sisters-in-law were the late, great actress Sridevi and the producer Mona Shourie Kapoor. His brother-in-law is Sandeep Marwah, who founded Noida Film City and owns Marwah Studios. Acting
In Tu Payal Mein Geet (1970), Kapoor made his acting debut as a younger version of Shashi Kapoor’s character. Nevertheless, the movie was not released in theaters.

Kapoor once more won praise for his performance in Virasat (1997), a remake of the Tamil film Thevar Magan (1992).
