Jasmin Walia Career
Singing in childhood and the start of a profession
Walia was the first person in her family to take up singing when she was about 7 or 8 years old. She liked to mimic the actors in the lounge when she watched TV. “I used to sit there every Saturday night, performing “Over The Rainbow” to my dad, and I think that he picked up on the fact that I loved singing and enrolled me into singing classes,” she remarked during a Q&A session. Even at a very young age, she showed a passion for the stage. When she was ten years old, she enrolled in theater school. She used to watch Bollywood films and listen to Indian music.
Jasmin Walia applied to the University of Cambridge to study philosophy after completing four A levels and receiving three As and a B, but she was not accepted. She spent a few years as a Customer Adviser with Natwest Bank. She also signed up for an accounting course through the ACCA, but she ultimately chose to drop out.
2012–2015: The X Factor and TOWIE
In the British reality TV series The Only Way Is Essex, Walia began her career as an extra in 2010 and was given full cast status in 2012. From September 2012 until April 2015, she was a member of series 7–14. ITVBe holds the original rights to the distribution of series 13 and 14, while ITV2 released series 7 through 12. In September 2013, she started filming The Only Way Is Las Vegas, which she also recorded.
In February 2014, she launched a YouTube account where she posted song covers featuring Zack Knight, intens-ti, and Ollie Green Music, among other musicians. Her early covers included well-known songs like “Rather Be,” “Dark Horse,” and “All of Me.”[Reference required]
Walia went to audition for The X Factor’s eleventh season in September 2014, but she was rejected by all four judges, which broke her heart. In an interview, she stated, “I was absolutely destroyed. You’re standing about, observing everyone around you with increasing anxiety.”
Jasmin Walia announced her resignation from the TOWIE program on Twitter in May 2015, writing, “I can confirm that I am taking a break from filming #TOWIE but would like to thank everyone involved with the show, Producers, Crew & Cast x [sic].”
