Ambati Rayudu was a member of the Indian Premier League (IPL) teams Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Hyderabad in domestic cricket.

At the age of sixteen, Rayudu started his first-class career with Hyderabad in 2002. The next year, he was representing India A. At the 2004 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, he captained the India Under-19 team and was anticipated to make the senior squad. Rayudu tweeted in April 2019 that he had “just ordered a new set of 3D glasses to watch the world cup” after Vijay Shankar, whom the head of the selection committee had referred to as a “three dimensional cricketer,” was chosen over him for the World Cup squad.
