Pathan, who started out as a fast-medium swing and seam bowler, was compared to Pakistan’s Wasim Akram due to his impressive swing and promising performances when he joined the national squad shortly after turning 19. However, he ultimately proved to be a letdown. When playing Pakistan in Karachi at the beginning of 2006, Pathan became the lone bowler to record a Test hat-trick in the opening over of the game . In September 2007, he made his comeback to international cricket for the first World Twenty20, taking three wickets and winning man of the match as India defeated Pakistan in the championship match. On his T20 World Cup debut, Pathan became the first bowler from India to take a wicket off the first delivery. Irfan Pathan was called up to the ODI team as a result, and he played regularly for the majority of the following year before being cut as his economy rate kept rising and he started to battle with injuries and a lack of form. Pathan progressed to be chosen for the Baroda cricket team at the Under-14 level under the mentorship of former Indian captain Datta Gaekwad. In 2011, he suffered a knee injury and was picked for the Baroda Comeback squad at the Under-15 level.
