Bengali cinema has made Aparna Sen, an Indian actress, screenwriter, and director (née Dasgupta, Ŕporna Shen), well-known. As an actor and filmmaker, she has won numerous honors, including thirteen Bengal Film Journalists’ Association Awards, five Filmfare Awards East, and nine National Film Awards. The Government of India bestowed upon her the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian honor in the nation, in recognition of her artistic contributions.

At the age of sixteen, Sen made her screen debut in the Samapti segment of the 1961 film Teen Kanya (Three Daughters), which was directed by her father’s old friend Satyajit Ray. Sen wrote and directed the English film Sonata, which was released in 2017. The film, which stars Aparna Sen, Shabana Azmi, and Lillete Dubey as three middle-aged single friends, is an adaptation of a Mahesh Elkunchwar play.
Her third Hindi film, The Rapist, which starred Arjun Rampal and her daughter Konkona Sen Sharma, was directed by her in 2021.
