Sharmin Segal Childhood And Upbringing
Deepak and Bela Segal are the parents of Segal. Her father is a film producer, but her mother, who has Black to her credit, is a film editor. Sharmin Segal is the granddaughter of Indian cinema director Mohan Segal, who brought seasoned actress Rekha into the spotlight.
The late Leela and Navin Bhansali, film producers, are Segal’s maternal grandparents. Sanjay Leela Bhansali, a producer and director, is her niece. Sharmin Segal graduated from the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York with a degree in acting.
Segal talked up about experiencing fat shaming as a teenager in a 2019 interview. Sharmin Segal said that she was teased in school till she graduated and that she was overweight when she was a teenager. 2019 saw Segal make her screen debut in Malaal, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. In contrast to Meezaan Jafri, she played Astha Tripathi. Critics gave it varying ratings. The Times of India described the film as a “simmering love story” with “romantic and intense moments,” praising the performances of debutantes Meezaan and Sharmin as well as their on-screen chemistry. Meezaan and Sharmin Segal’s debut pair were described by News18 as “charming in parts” but “rough around the edges.” Segal’s performance earned her a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.

Sharmin Segal played Netra Banerjee, an air hostess, in ZEE5’s Atithi Bhooto Bhava in 2022, opposite Pratik Gandhi. Critics gave it varying ratings. According to Filmfare, Sharman “looks convincing as the girl who finds it difficult to get used to her man’s eccentricities.” Sharmin Segal emerges as a true couple with Pratik.” Segal was praised as “outstanding” by DNA India, which also predicted that the movie would make you cry.
Sharmin Segal Heeramandi
Segal starred opposite Taha Shah Badussha as the poetess Alamzeb in Bhansali’s Heeramandi series in 2024. Hindustan Times’ Devansh Sharma said, “Sharmin lends the much-needed youthful energy, but her voice and dialogue delivery doesn’t work in her favour.”
