Shahana Goswami Career

Goswami met talent scout Shaanu Sharma through her theatre group, and Sharma invited her to try out for a part in Naseeruddin Shah’s directorial debut, Yun Hota Toh Kya Hota. Later, when she went to the production company for another job, she happened to see a minor part in Reema Kagti’s Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. as Boman Irani’s daughter.

Shahana Goswami auditioned for the lead part in Ru Ba Ru, directed by Arjun Bali and starring Randeep Hooda for Percept Picture Company, after a cinematographer who had seen her work in Yun Hota Toh Kya Hota recommended her. For Goswami, Ru Ba Ru occurred during her final year of college, right before she graduated. Long before she was cast for Rock On!!, she made her cinematic debut in Bangkok.

Abhishek Kapoor, the film’s director, was approached by her friends Shaanu Sharma and Simran, who were in the middle of casting Rock On!!, to suggest her name. Shahana Goswami later tried out for the movie, landing her first role as Debbie. Shahana Goswami was awarded the Filmfare Best Actress (Critics) title for her performance.

Then, she made an appearance as a Mumbai taxi driver in Dido’s Let’s Do the Things We Normally Do music video. Siddharth Sikand shot the video. She also made an appearance in a Fevicol commercial that took place in a Rajasthani village in between. Goswami’s first worldwide undertaking was the 2013 adaptation of Salman Rushdie’s Booker Prize-winning novel, Midnight’s Children, by Deepa Mehta.

In Vara: A Blessing, which was filmed in Sri Lanka and helmed by Khyentse Norbu (director of The Cup and Travellers and Magicians), Goswami portrayed the lead female role. For her role in the movie, she won the Asian Award for Best Actress.

Shahana Goswami was chosen for a lead part in Tu Hai Mera Sunday in 2016, which garnered favourable reviews from critics. Goswami teamed up with director and producer Rubayat Hossain for Under Construction at the Festival des Cinémas d’Asie in Vesoul in 2016.
Goswami made an appearance in the Alankrita Shrivastava film Bombay Begums, which starred Pooja Bhatt, Amruta Subhash, Plabita Borthakur, and Aadhya Anand. Shahana Goswami starred in Nandita Das’s Zwigato (2023). It was set in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, and starred Goswami as her husband and Kapil Sharma as a food delivery driver. At the Toronto International Film Festival, the movie had its world premiere.
