Actress Farida Jalal, whose real name is Farida Sami and she was born on May 18, 1950, was mostly employed in Hindi films. Over the course of his nearly fifty-year cinematic career, Jalal made over 200 appearances. Farida Jalal has won two Bengal Film Journalists Association Awards and four Filmfare Awards. Jalal began working for Taqdeer in 1967. Farida Jalal continued to appear in many films in the 1970s and early 1980s, both in starring and supporting roles. Aradhana (1969), Paras (1971), Henna (1991), and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995) are her most well-known films; the last three won her the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. After playing strong female characters and motherly parts in the 1990s and early 2000s, she became well-known. For her performance in Mammo (1994), she was also honoured with the Filmfare Award for Best Actress (Critics). For her performance in A Gran Plan (2012), she was awarded the Best Actress Award at the 2012 Harlem International Film Festival.

Farida Jalal Career
Born in Bombay on May 18, 1950, Farida Jalal began her professional career in the 1960s when she emerged victorious in the United Film Producers Talent Hunt, which was supported by Filmfare, in 1965. Farida Jalal was selected as a finalist, and during the Filmfare Awards ceremony, she and Rajesh Khanna were both declared winners on stage. An audience member named Tarachand Barjatya made her her first film offer for Taqdeer. When asked about the early years of her career, she responded as follows in a 2014 interview: “I began my acting career in a movie called Taqdeer, right after I graduated from St. Joseph’s Convent in Panchgani. I entered and even won a talent competition. Myself and Kaka (Rajesh Khanna) were the victors. How could I have known that I would be working with him on the film Aradhana soon?”
She typically portrayed the male lead’s sister or spurned fiancée. In an interview, she cited the following when asked how she came to be stereotyped as a hero’s sister: “It all started with Gopi where I was offered the greatest role as Mr. Dilip Kumar’s sister.” I didn’t even consider declining; I seized the chance.
I would have gone to watch him on set even if I had only been given the opportunity to do so. I adore the man. Every actor, including Dharmendra, Jeetendra, and Manoj Kumar, was imitating Dilip Saab back then, as far as I can recall. Being Dilip Saab’s sister, I was highly sought after. I was asked to play every actor’s sister. The film’s heroine was the sister at times. I had all the big scenes, while the official heroine would just sing her songs. I received my accolades and appreciation. I played the sister of Sanjeev Kumar in the movie Paras. However, I was tasked with much more than the lead actress, Raakhee-di. It earned me my first award. Next, I received my second prize for Majboor, a Salimbhai and Javedbhai film in which Bachchan Saab portrayed my brother. It gave me such hope. Given that I was receiving the stronger parts as the sister, why would I want to be a heroine?”
Jalal appeared in numerous high-profile films in the 1990s, including Raja Hindustani, Dil To Pagal Hai, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and Kaho Naa. Her films include Pyaar Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham… and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, for which she was Best Supporting Actress recipient of the 1996 Filmfare Award.
In the movie Mammo, Farida Jalal portrayed the main role. Jalal took home the Filmfare Award for Best Actress (Critics) and the movie won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi. She performed in numerous TV series, including the humour Dekh Bhai Dekh.Jalal portrayed the starring role in Shararat, a film released in 2003. She co-hosted the 50th Filmfare Awards in Mumbai in 2005 with Sonali Bendre and Saif Ali Khan. She had a brief cameo in the Punjabi movie Yaariyan in 2008. Farida Jalal later made an appearance in Balika Vadhu, a soap opera.
Farida Jalal Individual Life
Jalal was wed to the Bhatkal, Karnataka-born actor Tabrez Barmavar. She got married in November 1978 after meeting her spouse on the Jeevan Rekha film set, where they fell in love during production. The pair relocated to Bangalore, where her husband operated a soap manufacturing company. Yaseen is their son’s name. September 2003 saw the death of her spouse.
Farida Jalal fell prey to a death hoax in 2017. Her death was the subject of multiple false reports on different websites.
