Rao made his acting debut in the anthology film Love Sex Aur Dhokha (2010) after studying acting at the Film and Television Institute of India. Rajkummar Rao later played supporting roles in the 2012 films Talaash: The Answer Lies Within and Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 2. His highly regarded roles in the dramas Shahid and Kai Po Che! gave him his big break in 2013.

With supporting parts in Queen (2014), Aligarh (2015), and Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017)—the latter of which earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor—Rao’s career advanced.

On August 31, 1984, in Prem Nagar, Gurgaon, Haryana, India, Raj Kumar Yadav was born, assuming the name Rajkummar Rao.In his extended family, he had three cousins and two older siblings. His mother, Kamlesh Yadav, was a homemaker, while his father, Satya Prakash Yadav, worked for the government in the Haryana revenue department. His father passed away in 2019 and his mother in 2016. Rajkummar Rao attended school plays at S.N. Sidheshwar Senior Sec Public School, where he finished his 12th standard. Rajkummar Rao completed his studies at the University of Delhi’s Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College while also performing in plays with Delhi’s Shri Ram Centre and Kshitij Theatre Group.

Early work in the career (2010–2012)

The movie, which also stars Amit Sadh and Sushant Singh Rajput, is based on Chetan Bhagat’s 2008 book The 3 Mistakes of My Life. When the movie debuted in India on February 22, 2013, critics praised the lead actors’ performances and the film won accolades overall. Rao, in the words of Deccan Herald’s Shilpa Jamkhandikar, “beautifully” portrayed the character and stood out. For his role in the movie, Rao was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for the first time.

Rajkummar Rao also starred in the 2013 biographical drama Shahid, which was directed by Hansal Mehta. In it, he portrays the late lawyer Shahid Azmi in the title role.

The romantic comedy Behen Hogi Teri, starring Rao alongside Shruti Haasan, was not well received by critics despite Rao’s outstanding performance. In the spiritual follow-up to the 2018 comedy-drama Badhaai Ho, Rao featured alongside Bhumi Pednekar in Badhaai Do.

Rajkummar Rao Public Perception

Rao was included in Forbes India’s 2014 30 Under 30 list. In 2017, he was named India’s Hottest Vegetarian Celebrity by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). He was listed as one of the 50 Most Influential Young Indians by GQ magazine and among the Celebrity 100 by Forbes India in the same year. Rajkummar Rao has represented Actimaxx, Seventh Street, and the Eat Right movement of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India as a brand ambassador.

In order to assist people in need of food due to the COVID-19 outbreak in India, Rao gave an undisclosed sum of money to the PM CARES Fund, the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, and Zomato’s Feeding India.
