In 1996, Sheirgill made his film debut in the thriller Maachis. Following his breakout performance in the highest-grossing Hindi film of the year, Mohabbatein (2000), a musical love drama, he went on to star in several more box office hits, such as Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai (2002), Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster (2011), Tanu Weds Manu (2011), Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. After a few years of studies at St. Francis’ College in Lucknow, he relocated to Punjab, the state of his ancestry, in 1985. He attended Bikram College at Punjabi University in Patiala and The Punjab Public School in Nabha. Jimmy Sheirgill graduated from Punjab University and Post Graduate Government College-11, Chandigarh, with a degree in hand. After being persuaded by a cousin to try his hand in the film industry, Sheirgill travelled to Mumbai. He went to Roshan Taneja’s acting classes there.
