Jayam Ravi continued to work with his brother on additional films, such as M. Kumaran S/O Mahalakshmi (2004), Unakkum Enakkum (2006), Santhosh Subramaniam (2008), and Thani Oruvan (2015). The popularity of a later film, Jayam, led to the title becoming a prefix to his stage name.

Jayam Ravi Childhood And Family

In Tirumangalam, Madurai, Jayam Ravi was born as Mohan Ravi. His mother is from Andhra Pradesh, and his father is Editor Mohan, a Tamil Rowther . His sister Roja works as a dentist, while his older brother Mohan Raja directs movies, with Ravi starring in majority of them. Ravi was raised in Hyderabad and Chennai. He finished his education in Ashok Nagar, Chennai’s Jawahar Vidyalaya.

When he was twelve years old, he performed his arangetram after studying dance with Nalini Balakrishnan, a Bharatnatyam dancer. Jayam Ravi made the decision to enter the film business after earning his degree in Visual Communication from Loyola College in Chennai. He received acting training at Mumbai’s Kishore Namit Kapur Institute as well. Prior to making his acting debut, Ravi worked as Suresh Krishna’s assistant director on the Kamal Haasan film Aalavandhan (2001).

Produced by his father, Ravi appeared in three films as a child actor, two of which were Telugu: Oru Thottil Sabadham (1989), Bava Bavamaridi (1993), and Palnati Pourusham (1993).

Jayam In the action-masala film Jayam, which was directed by his brother Mohan Raja and produced by his father, Ravi made his leading acting debut. It was a reimagining of the same-titled Telugu movie from 2002. His next project was the 2004 sentimental drama M. Kumaran Son Of Mahalakshmi, which he co-starred in with Asin Thottumkal.

It was a remake of the Telugu film Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi. Sify’s critic said of Ravi’s performance that he “makes you want to see more of him”, and Malathi Rangarajan of The Hindu observed that he gave a “appreciable portrayal throughout”. The movie, which was deemed a family film, won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Film Special Award and Ravi took home the Best Actor trophy. It turned out to be profitable as well.

Ravi starred in three movies in 2008. After making a brief appearance in Velli Thirai, he starred in a remake of his brother’s family drama Santhosh Subramaniam. He starred opposite Genelia D’Souza in the Tamil adaptation of the 2006 Telugu film Bommarillu, in which he played a young guy whose father constantly restricts his choices and desires. At the 56th Filmfare Awards South, Ravi was nominated for the Best Tamil Actor Award.

After that, he acted in the action thriller Dhaam Dhoom, which was helmed by the late Jeeva, a cinematographer and director who passed away while the movie was being shot in Russia. Completed by Jeeva’s helper Manikandan, his spouse Aneez Tanveer, and his guru P. C. Sreeram, Dhaam Dhoom, in which he played Gautham Subramaniyam, an individual charged with a homicide he did not commit, was released in the middle of 2008. The critic for Sify praised him for being “just fantastic in the role,” calling the movie “a true Jayam Ravi production”, while Indiaglitz stated that Ravi was “definitely the ideal choice to portray the character.”

2009–2019: Comedic and action parts

Ravi featured in the action-adventure movie Peranmai in 2009. He starred in the 2010 Telugu version of the action-comedy Kick, which was remade as Thillalangadi. He acted in the love drama Engeyum Kaadhal in 2011. He acted in the action movie Ameerin Aadhi-Bhagavan in 2013. In 2014, he played Janda Pai Kapiraju in the concurrently made Telugu action film Nimirndhu Nil, which featured Nani.

The action-thriller Thani Oruvan (directed by his brother Mohan Raja), the sports action movie Bhooloham, the romantic comedy Romeo Juliet, and the action-comedy Sakalakala Vallavan were the four films in which Ravi starred in 2015. He starred in the zombie-apocalyptic action-horror movie Miruthan in 2016. In 2017, he starred in the action-adventure movie Vanamagan as well as the action-thriller Bogan, where he reunited with actor Arvind Swami following Thani Oruvan.

Jayam Ravi acted in two 2018 films: the action-thriller Adanga Maru and the sci-fi action picture Tik Tik Tik, which is regarded as India’s first space film . He starred as the lead in the comedy Comali and made a brief appearance in the adventure picture Thumbaa in 2019.

From 2021 until the present: Career advancement

Following a two-year hiatus from the big screen, Ravi returned to the OTT space in 2021 with his 25th film, Bhoomi. Because of the COVID-19 outbreak in India, the movie was scheduled to open in theaters on May 19. Jayam Ravi appeared in Ponniyin Selvan, directed by Mani Ratnam, in 2022 as Arulmozhivarman, who went on to become Raja Raja Chola, the Chola Emperor.

Jayam Ravi Individual Life

Since 2009, Ravi has been wed to Aarti, the famous television producer Sujatha Vijayakumar’s daughter. They are parents to two sons, Aarav of whom appeared in his 2018 film Tik Tik Tik.
