Jonita Gandhi Personal Life

Gandhi was born in Delhi to a Punjabi family. When she was nine months old, her family moved to Brampton, Canada, where she was raised. Her family eventually made Mississauga their home.

Gandhi attended Turner Fenton Secondary School and the University of Western Ontario’s Ivey Business School, where she graduated in 2012 with a degree in business and health science. Jonita Gandhi has received formal instruction in both Hindustani and Western classical singing.

Gandhi was surrounded by music growing up because her brother and father were both occasional musicians. Together, they would frequently sing cover songs at public gatherings. Jonita Gandhi went on the Canadian Idol audition circuit when she was sixteen years old, however she was not selected.

From her bedroom, she started posting covers to YouTube, occasionally collaborating with other local singers like Akash Gandhi. The videos became viral fast, opening up a plethora of performance chances. She started by covering popular Hindi movie songs on YouTube, like Pani Da Rang, Tujhko Jo Paaya, Tum Hi Ho, Suhaani Raat, Yeh Honsla, and many more. These were the covers she usually performed at her early shows.

Her foray into playback singing started when she was given the chance to perform with Sonu Nigam. This tour went through several nations, including the Caribbean, the US, the UK, and Russia.

After that, she was determined to launch a career in the Bollywood music sector. Gandhi began performing in playback for Chennai Express. Vishal-Shekhar wrote the soundtrack for this movie. She went on to sing in more Bollywood films such as Highway, where she sang the songs Implosive Silence and Kahaan Hoon Main.

Gandhi performed playback vocals for A. R. Rahman and Pritam, among other music directors. Gandhi appeared with Rahman in the One Heart (film) concert film. Gandhi appeared on MTV Unplugged and with Salim-Sulaiman during the 2016 Jubilee Games in Dubai.

Jonita Gandhi served as a judge and coach for StarPlus’s Indian kids singing reality show Taare Zameen Par in 2020. Gandhi is scheduled to make her screen debut in 2021 in the Tamil film Walking/Talking Strawberry Icecream, directed by Vignesh Shivan and starring Krishnakumar Balasubramanian.

At the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Jonita performed musically with DIVINE as part of the IPL 2023 Closing Ceremony.
