Alisha Chinai Career

Jaadoo, Babydoll, Aah… Alisha!, Madonna, Kamasutra, Alisha – Madonna of India, and Made in India are some of Chinai’s early albums. Bappi Lahiri, a seasoned composer and music director, introduced Alisha to Hindi cinema music. Together, they had a lot of disco successes in the 1980s, appearing in films including Adventures of Tarzan, Dance Dance, Commando, Guru, and Love Love Love.

She began her career with him by playback singing for a number of well-known actresses, including Divya Bharti, Juhi Chawla, Madhuri Dixit, Mandakini, Sridevi, and Karisma Kapoor. For the album Old Goan Gold, Alisha and Remo Fernandes sung two Konkani songs together in 1985.

Alisha Chinai also recorded a song written by Anand-Milind for Pankuj Parashar’s 1987 film Jalwa. “Kaate Nahin Katthe” (Mr. India), which she recorded in 1987 with Kishore Kumar under the musical direction of Laxmikant–Pyarelal, was one of her biggest songs of the 1980s. “Raat Bhar Jaam Se” from the 1989 movie Tridev, which had music by Kalyanji-Anandji and Viju Shah, was another hit song.

Chinai began directing films in the 1990s, working with directors of music like Anu Malik, Anand-Milind, Rajesh Roshan, and Nadeem-Shravan. She had multiple Bollywood hits over the years, such as “Dhak Dhak Dhak” (Maha-Sangram) with Aditya Pancholi, “Jalta Hai Badan” (Balwaan), “Tere Ishq Mein Nachenge” (Raja Hindustani), “Chaa Raha Hain Pyaar Ka Nasha” (Chandra Mukhi), “Roundhe” (Pyar Tune Kya Kiya), “Sona Sona Roop Hai” (Bollywood/Hollywood), “Mouje Mein” (Karobaar), “De Diya” (Keemat), “Ruk Ruk Ruk” (Vijaypath), and the contentious “Sexy Sexy Sexy Mujhe Log Bole” (Khuddar).

Chinai collaborated with Lesle Lewis on the album Bombay Girl, which featured the popular track “De De” that was released in 1994. She simultaneously recorded a number of pop songs and released corresponding albums. Made in India, Chinai’s 1995 breakthrough single and album, was produced by Biddu. It went on to become one of the best-selling pop albums of its day and established Alisha as a household star. Prominent tunes like “Aaja Mere Dil Mein”, “Ek Baar Do Baar”, “Sun O Meri Dhadkan”, “Tu Kahan”, “Ooh La La”, “Tu Jo Mila”, “Dhokha Diya Hai Re Tune Mere Dil” and “Lover Girl” are included in it.

After it became popular, Chinai declared she was quitting playback singing to focus solely on her own pop albums. Her subsequent publications, though, did not enjoy the same popularity. During this time, she also became embroiled in a significant disagreement with Anu Malik, the man with whom she had recorded several successful songs. Chinai had claimed that Anu Malik had molested her back when Made in India was first released. After a few years of separation, Anu Malik and Chinai reconnected with Ishq Vishk in 2003.

The song “Oh My Darling” from the Yash Raj film Mujhse Dosti Karoge! marked Chinai’s return to the world of cinema music. She mostly collaborated on records with Himesh Reshammiya, Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy, and Pritam between 2000 and 2009. She and Anu Malik reconciled during her 1990s scandal, and together they recorded for several films, including Ishq Vishk, Fida, No Entry, Love Story 2050, Maan Gaye Mughle Azam, Ugly Aur Pagli, Chehraa, and Kambakht Ishq.

Chinai’s career took a turn for the better in 2005 when she sang “Kajra Re” (Bunty Aur Babli). She received a Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer for the song, which was a smash. Alongside Anu Malik, she served as a judge on Zed TV’s Star Ya Rockstar. She was also a judge on Indian Idol 3.
