After spotting Shiney in the Pepsi commercial, Sudhir Mishra—a casting call for a movie by Pritish Nandy Communications, Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi—called him to try out for Kay Kay’s role as Sidharth Tyabji. Mishra also gave him an audition for the character of Vikram Malhotra at his request. After being chosen from more than 200 applicants to play Vikram Malhotra, he made his feature film debut. Over the course of six months, the movie was screened at up to twelve film festivals and went on to receive positive reviews.

Film festivals held in Turkey, Estonia, River to River (Florence), Berlin, Edinburgh, Washington, Dallas, India (Goa), Bradford, UK’s Bite The Mango festival, Manchester’s Commonwealth festival, and California’s Pacific Rim festival were among them. With little promotion when it was commercially released in 2005, the movie had a widespread national impact in India. He won multiple best actor (debut) honours from Zed Cine, Filmfare, and Stardust this year.

After that, Ahuja starred opposite Kangana Ranaut in Woh Lamhe and Gangster, two of Mahesh Bhatt’s popular commercial films. Other films like Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Life in a Metro came next. Two of his films, Har Pal starring Preity Zinta and Ek Accident starring Soha Ali Khan, are still upcoming.

Shiney Ahuja Legal history

Ahuja was taken into custody in June 2009 on suspicion of raping, holding, and intimidating his 19-year-old domestic helper. He was charged under the Indian Penal Code’s Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (threat to kill). The victim, his maid, changed her statement throughout the trial and informed the judge she had never been raped. But the judge thought the maid had given a false statement under duress, thus Ahuja was given a seven-year prison sentence in 2011.

The courtroom drama film Section 375 took its inspiration from this case. Manish Gupta, a friend of his who had dealt with the case’s parties at the time of the arrest, wrote the screenplay for the movie.
