Kiran Rao Childhood

Kiran Rao was raised in Kolkata after being born on November 7, 1973, in Hyderabad, into a Telugu-Bengali household belonging to J. C. Rao. Her parents moved out of Calcutta in 1992, and she migrated to Mumbai with Ajay Goyal. In 1995, she earned her degree in food sciences from Sophia College for Women.

After two months of attendance in the Sophia Polytechnic’s Social Communications Media degree, she left and travelled to Delhi. At the AJK Mass Communication Research Centre at Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi, she earned her master’s degree.

Aditi Rao Hydari, an actress, is the first cousin of Rao. J. Rameshwar Rao , the paternal grandfather of Rao and the maternal grandfather of Hydari, was the Raja of Wanaparthy, a sizable estate ruled by the Nizam of Hyderabad. Currently, Wanaparthy is a Telangana district.

Kiran Rao Career

Rao began her career as Ashutosh Gowariker’s assistant director on the epic film Lagaan. Later, she worked with Gowariker again on Swades: We, the People. Lagaan received a nomination for a foreign language picture at the 74th Academy Awards. The film was both produced and starred by Aamir Khan.

Kiran Rao also played a small supporting part in Dil Chahta Hai before to Lagaan. Kiran Rao also collaborated with Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Mira Nair on the independent blockbuster Monsoon Wedding as second assistant director.

Under Aamir Khan Productions, she wrote the story and directed the 2011 January release Dhobi Ghat. Her next movie, which will have its origins in Kolkata, is now being written.

Kiran Rao Individual Life

In 2017, Rao and her ex-husband Aamir Khan promoted the Paani Foundation while filming Chala Hawa Yeu Dya, a Marathi television series.
After Aamir Khan’s 2002 divorce from Reena Dutta, Rao wed the actor in December 2005. They got together on the Lagaan set. Rao served as an assistant director on the movie. They were residing in the Mumbai suburb of Bandra. Azad Rao Khan, the couple’s kid, was born in December 2011 (via a surrogate mother) and is named for Abul Kalam Azad.

Rao has always been a vegan, and she even convinced her ex-husband, Aamir Khan, to follow suit. They spoke about it and ultimately decided to go vegan.

After 15 years of marriage, Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan announced their intention to get a divorce in a joint statement on July 3, 2021. They thanked their friends and family for their unwavering support during this time. They declared that they will carry on being co-parents to their son.
