Filmmaker Hansal Mehta was born in India on April 29, 1968. After beginning his career in television with the series Khana Khazana (1993–2000), he went on to direct movies such as Woodstock Villa (2008), Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai? (2002), and Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar!! Mehta was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, on April 29, 1968, into a Gujarati family of middle class. His upbringing was studying classical music and computer engineering. Before going back to India to begin his film career, he worked in Fiji.

In 1993, Mehta began his directing career with the TV cooking program Khana Khazana, which helped renowned chef Sanjeev Kapoor gain popularity on Zee TV. In addition, Mehta directed a number of television shows, including Neeti (1998), Lakshya (1998), Highway (1995), Yaadein (1995), and Amrita (1994).
Jayate, which was a part of the Indian Panorama 1999–2000 at the International picture Festival of India (IFFI), Hyderabad, marked his directorial debut in a feature picture. Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar!! With Rajkummar Rao in the lead role of his film Shahid (2013), Mehta genuinely shot to fame. Shahid had an extended run at several international film festivals across the globe after having its world premiere at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival. Later, Disney-UTV purchased this movie, which saw a commercial release in October 2013. a biographical movie on the life of Shahid Azmi, a human rights attorney who was killed in 2010. Following CityLights, Mehta directed Aligarh (2016), a film about a Marathi poet and professor who was expelled from his university due to his sexual orientation. The 20th Busan International Film Festival hosted the film’s world debut, and the BFI London Film Festival came next. The 17th Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival opened with the film Aligarh. Aligarh starred three of Mehta’s favorite actors: Manoj Bajpayee (with whom he reunited after Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar in 2000), Ashish Vidyarthi (after Highway in 1995), and Rajkummar Rao (their third collaboration since Shahid). The script for the film was written by his longtime collaborator Apurva Asrani (previous collaborations: Chhal, Shahid, CityLights). Eros International presented and co-produced Aligarh.
2020–the present
Alongside his own son Jai Mehta, he co-directed the Sony Liv program Scam 1992 in October 2020. The television series is based on the 1992 Indian stock market scam that involved numerous stockbrokers, notably Harshad Mehta. The book The Scam: Who Won, Who Lost, Who Got Away, written by journalist Sucheta Dalal and Debashish Basu, was the source of inspiration for the show. Critics and viewers praised the writing, directing, performances (particularly Gandhi’s), and other technical elements of the production. “Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story is a well-written show with its lead characters doing all the heavy lifting,” said Sayan Ghosh of The Hindu.

The 2023 film Faraaz, directed by Hansal Mehta, is based on the July 2016 attack on Holey Artisan Cafe that rocked Bangladesh. Mehta is also the director of the Kartik Aaryan film Captain Indian, which is based on actual events.
Hansal Mehta Individual Life
Mehta has two sons with Sunita, a director named Jay and a lad named Pallava, whom he married in his twenties. Following his divorce from Sunita, Mehta dated Safeena, the actress and father of Yusuf Hussain’s two children, Kimya and Rehana. Mehta wed Safeena in a modest wedding in California in 2022.
