Ekta Kapoor is an Indian filmmaker, television producer, and film producer who works in soap operas and Hindi movies. She was born on June 7, 1975 . Ekta Kapoor was appointed creative head and joint managing director of Balaji Telefilms Limited , a company established in 1994. Balaji Motion Pictures was established in 2001 as a division of the film production and distribution business Balaji Telefilms Limited.

April 2017 saw the launch of ALT Balaji by her. Additionally, in 2017, Kapoor released her biography, Balaji Telefilms: The Story of the Soap Queen. In 2020, Kapoor received the Padma Shri in recognition of her artistic achievements.

At the 51st International Emmy Awards, she is also given the 2023 International Emmy Directorate Award.

Actors Jeetendra and Shobha Kapoor are the parents of Kapoor. Tusshar Kapoor, her younger brother, is a Bollywood performer as well.

Ekta Kapoor attended Mithibai College for her college education after attending Bombay Scottish School in Mahim. Although Kapoor is single, she is the surrogate mother of Ravie Kapoor, who was born on January 27, 2019.

Ekta Kapoor Career

Kapoor began her professional life at the age of seventeen as an intern for feature and commercial filmmaker Kailash Surendranath. Under her own banner, Balaji Telefilms, she was a producer, having secured funding from her father. Six of her pilot episodes were rejected, making her first projects a complete failure and costing her ₹50 lakh (about ₹2.0 crore or US$250,000 in 2023).

Doordarshan picked her music-based show Dhun Dhamaka in 1995, while Zed TV picked Mano Ya Na Mano. Her first hit show, Hum Paanch, debuted in 1995.

The letter “K” became her lucky alphabet in the 2000s, and she began a number of episodes with the same letter as the first word in the titles, such as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, which surpassed all previous records to become the series with the highest TRPs in 2000. Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki, Kabhii Sautan Kabhii Sahelii, Kohi Apna Sa, Kaahin Kissii Roz, Kalash, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Kahiin To Hoga, and Kasamh Se are some other programmes that start with the letter “K.” She received the Best Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2001.

Kapoor was creating almost 30 hours of television programming every week by July 2001. Across all of the major TV networks, including Zed TV, Sony, Star Plus, and Metro, 20 of her 34 serials were recognised as the most popular serials. Her 2000–2001 anticipated turnover was ₹35 crore (that is, US$17 million in 2023, or ₹139 crore).

Ekta Kapoor started dabbling in other regional languages, starting with the Tamil series Kudumbum, after making her name in Hindi TV serials. After the show gained a lot of popularity, she had it remade into Telugu and released as Ghar Ek Mandir in Hindi. After that, she experimented with Bengali, Gujarati, Bengali, and Punjabi. Although she had writers working for her, as of 2001, Kapoor authored her own scripts and was actively involved in every stage of production; her mother, Shobha, took care of the accounting.

Thus far, Kapoor has written and produced over 130 Indian soap operas. She was dubbed the “Czarina of television” and “the Queen of Indian Television” because of her other well-liked shows, which included Pavitra Rishta, Bade Acche Lagte Hain, Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, Jodha Akbar,[citation needed] Naagin, Kumkum Bhagya, Kasam Tere Pyaar Ki, Kundali Bhagya, Yeh Hai Chahatein, and several others.

In 2001, she made her first Bollywood film, Kyo Kii… Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta, starring Govinda and Sushmita Sen. The supernaturally themed Kucch To Hai and Krishna Cottage came next in 2003 and 2004. Her brother Tusshar Kapoor was featured in Kyaa Kool Hai Hum in 2005. After that, she and Sanjay Gupta co-produced Shootout at Lokhandwala. Mission Istanbul and EMI – Liya Hai Toh Chukana Padhega, which worked with Sunil Shetty, came next. None of these films was a box office or critic’s favourite.

Ekta Kapoor produced a number of unsuccessful films between 2010 and 2014, such as Shor in the City, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, and Love Sex aur Dhokha.
