Former Trinidadian cricket player Sunil Philip Narine was born on May 26, 1988, and he represented the West Indies on the international front. During the Regional Four Day Competition in February 2009, Sunil made his first-class cricket debut for Trinidad and Tobago, bowling thirteen overs without picking up a wicket. After going wicketless in the first innings, he captured two wickets in the second, including that of Lionel Baker, the last man standing, before playing in another first-class match almost a year later .
Narine played his maiden Twenty20 (T20) match on January 20, 2011, at the Caribbean Twenty20, however he did not bowl because the match was called off due to rain before Trinidad & Tobago could bowl. Trinidad and Tobago were victorious in the end, as Narine took five wickets at an average of 13.40. Trinidad and Tobago qualified for the competition by virtue of winning it.
The championship was won by Trinidad and Tobago, and Narine took the most wickets (15), five more than the next closest rival, fellow spin bowler Nikita Miller. With 39 wickets, Narine holds the record for most wickets taken in Champions League T20 history.
Sunil Narine was acquired for $700,000 by the Kolkata Knight Riders in February 2012 so that he may participate in the 2012 Indian Premier League.
Sunil Narine was listed as one of the 10 star players for the inaugural Global T20 Canada cricket competition in May 2018. During the 2024 Indian Premier League, on March 29, 2024, he became the fourth player overall to play 500 T20 matches. Narine was a member of the West Indies team that toured India in November and December of 2011. On December 6, he made his One Day International debut by dismissing Ravichandran Ashwin and Virat Kohli to lead the West Indies to a 16-run victory in the third match. Sunil Narine has only participated in six first-class games at that point, taking 34 wickets at an average of 11.88. On June 10, 2012, Narine made his Test debut, taking Shane Shillingford’s place in the team as another off spinner.
In the fifth and final One-Day International (ODI) at Basseterre, St. Kitts, on July 16, 2012, Narine’s outstanding performance of five wickets for 28 runs enabled the West Indies to defeat New Zealand by 20 runs and win the current series 4-1. Despite just playing in his second Test, he was named Man of the Match.
With 784 points as of March 8, 2014, he was ranked first among bowlers in the ICC Twenty20 rankings. Ajantha Mendis of Sri Lanka completed the top three with 674 points, far ahead of second-place finisher Saeed Ajmal of Pakistan, who had 714 points. In a Twenty20 match, he is the only bowler to have bowled a maiden in a Super Over. Despite his strong performance in the 2021 IPL, he was left out of the ICC T20 CWC squad, which sparked a number of inquiries and responses.
