On April 3, 2014, he made his Twenty20 debut for Kerala against Karnataka during the 2014–15 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy season. On November 10, 2014, he made his List A debut against Hyderabad during the 2014–15 Vijay Hazare Trophy season in Kerala.

On November 5, 2016, he made his Kerala first-class debut in the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy.

Vishnu Vinod made his first-class century against Madhya Pradesh in the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy, hitting an undefeated 193 off 282 balls. In the 2019–20 Vijay Hazare Trophy, he scored the most runs for Kerala with 508 from 8 matches, an average of 63.50, including 3 hundreds.

He was included in the India A team for the 2019–20 Deodhar Trophy in October 2019. He participated in both games, culminating in an unmemorable tournament where he scored 23 runs overall from 2 games at an average of 11.50.

In the 2021–22 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy quarterfinals against Tamil Nadu, he struck a 26–ball 65* with seven sixes in November of 2021. Nevertheless, the game was lost in the end.

In the December 2021 Vijay Hazare Trophy match between Kerala and Maharashtra, Vishnu struck an undefeated hundred runs and, with Sijomon Joseph, formed a record-breaking seventh-wicket of 174 runs to win the match for Kerala.
