Aparna Sen Childhood And Schooling

Sen was born in Kolkata into a Bengali Baidya family. Her family was originally from Chittagong District, Cox’s Bazar (now in Bangladesh).[Reference required] Her father was Chidananda Dasgupta, a seasoned critic and filmmaker. At the age of 73, her mother Supriya Dasgupta, a costume designer, won the 1994 National Film Award for Best Costume Design for her work on Chidananda’s film Amodini. Sen is Jibanananda Das’s niece, a poet from Bengal. Sen was educated at the Modern High School for Girls in Kolkata after spending her early years in both Hazaribagh and Kolkata. At the age of sixteen, Sen made her screen debut in the Samapti segment of the 1961 film Teen Kanya (Three Daughters), which was directed by her father’s old friend Satyajit Ray. Sen acted in Mrinal Sen’s film Akash Kusum (1965), four years after her debut picture, in which she portrayed Monica. Sen first revealed the details of her upcoming Bengali film, Iti Mrinalini, in 2009. The cast included Rajat Kapoor, Kaushik Sen, Priyanshu Chatterjee, Aparna Sen, and Konkona Sen Sharma. Iti Mrinalini is a co-written film by debutant screenwriter Ranjan Ghosh. Sen had never before worked with a screenwriter on a movie or been a part of a film school’s curriculum. Whistling Woods International, a film school located in Mumbai, included the screenplay of Iti Mrinalini as one of its assignments in the Screenwriting curriculum. Her film Goynar Baksho (The Jewellery Box) was released in 2013 and it portrayed the interaction between three generations of women and a box of jewels. Reviewers and critics praised it critically, and it played to packed houses. After that, the Romeo and Juliet adaption Arshinagar was released in 2015.

Sen wrote and directed the English film Sonata, which was released in 2017. The film, which stars Aparna Sen, Shabana Azmi, and Lillete Dubey as three middle-aged single friends, is an adaptation of a Mahesh Elkunchwar play.

Her third Hindi film, The Rapist, which starred Arjun Rampal and her daughter Konkona Sen Sharma, was directed by her in 2021. The Rapist, according to her in an interview with the Firstpost, will be a “hard-hitting drama that examines how much of society is responsible for producing rapists.” The movie is a nominee for the 26th Busan International Film Festival’s Kim Jiseok Award, which will be presented in October 2021.
