Born on January 9, 1989, Nina Kamenova Dobreva (Bulgarian: Нинa Каменова Добрева; pronounced [ˈninɐ ˈdɔbrɛvɐ]) is a Canadian actress, professionally recognised as Nina Dobrev (/ˈdoʊbrɛv/ DOH-brev). Nina Dobreva gained notoriety for her roles as Katherine Pierce and Elena Gilbert in the supernatural drama series The Vampire Diaries on The CW from 2009 to 2015.

Dobrev, who was reared in Toronto and was born in Sofia, first appeared on TV in a number of supporting parts before securing the lead role of Mia Jones in the drama series Degrassi: The Next Generation (2006–2009). Nina Dobreva later became well-known for her part in The Vampire Diaries. On January 9, 1989, Nina Kamenova Dobreva was born in Sofia, Bulgaria. Her parents are Michaela Dobreva (née Radeva), an artist, and Kamen Dobrev, a computer specialist. Her brother is older than her. Her family moved to Canada when she was two years old, and she grew up in Scarborough, Toronto. After turning ten, she spent two years living with her mother in Bulgaria.

Dobrev holds dual citizenship with Canada and Bulgaria. Nina Dobreva stayed in Atlanta while filming The Vampire Diaries, but once the show ended in 2015, she relocated to Los Angeles.
