Actor Nani was given the Awe plot by Prashanth Varma in 2017, and the film’s production was secured by Wall Poster Cinema in collaboration with Prashanti Tipirneni. In 2018, he made his directorial debut with the film, which was well-received for its provocative portrayal of psychological and social issues, such as drug abuse, sexual abuse, and child abuse.

Promoted as the first Telugu superhero movie. The movie, which starred Teja Sajja as Hanumanthu and Amritha Aiyer as Meenakshi, was released on January 12, 2024, which happened to be Sankranti. It functioned as the opening chapter in the Indian mythology-inspired Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe (PVCU). The film’s directing, screenplay, acting, production design, VFX, background music, and action scenes all garnered very favourable reviews. It became the highest-grossing Telugu film of 2024, the highest-grossing Indian film of 2024, and the eighth highest-grossing Telugu film of all time with a global box office gross of over ₹350 crore.
