Kumar was raised in Lucknow, where he was born. Ever since she started playing in plays as a child, she had a tendency for acting.

Kumra was chosen for the 2013 season of Yudh, a 20-episode television series starring Amitabh Bachchan in which she plays a crucial part as Bachchan’s daughter. Later, she portrayed Agent Trisha Dewan, the primary female character, opposite Sharad Kelkar in the biweekly television criminal thriller series Agent Raghav – criminal Branch. For her short film Siberia, Kumra took home the Best Actress Award from the Third Moida International Awards.
Her first feature film appearances were in Hindi in Sona Spa (2013) and Tulu in Kudla Cafe (2015). The Pro Kabbadi 2016 series was presented by her. Kumra played the lead character of Leela in the 2017 dark comedy Lipstick Under My Burkha Aahana Kumra played Priyanka Gandhi in the political biographical movie The Accidental Prime Minister the following year.
