Shirley Setia relocated to Auckland with her family after being born in Daman, India, in the former union territory of Daman and Diu. While still a University of Auckland student, she gained notoriety as a YouTube musician by posting renditions of Bollywood songs. After that, Setia was called “Bollywood’s Next Big Singing Sensation” in a Forbes magazine story.
