Singh was born in Durgapur, West Bengal, on June 10, 1977, with the name Amrik Singh.He is the youngest of eight children—two daughters and six sons—in. The inspiration for Singh and his older brother Daler Mehndi came from their father Ajmer Singh, a classically educated musician who had sung kirtans in the Patna Sahib Gurdwara since they were young.

The singer Mika Singh was barred from the Indian film industry on August 14, 2019, by the All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA), after her performance at an event in Karachi, Pakistan. A close relative of former Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf organised the gathering in that country. The film organisation also unconditionally barred the artist and forbade him from signing any music or movie deals with entertainment companies.
