Professionally referred to as AP Dhillon, Amritpal Singh Dhillon is an Indo-Canadian singer, rapper, and record producer who works in the Punjabi music industry. Of his singles, “Majhail” and “Brown Munde” have topped the Billboard list, while five of them have reached on the Official Charts Company UK Asian and Punjabi charts. Dhillon records under the label “Run-Up Records” with his labelmates Gurinder Gill, Shinda Kahlon, and Gminxr.

AP Dhillon Childhood

Amritpal Singh Dhillon was born in Mullianwal, Punjab, India’s Gurdaspur district, into a Sikh family. He attended Little Flower Convent School and graduated from Baba Kuma Singh Ji Engineering College in Amritsar with a degree in civil engineering. Dhillon attended Camosun College in Saanich, British Columbia, Canada, to earn a diploma in business administration and management. Before deciding to pursue music, he had a brief stint at Best Buy.

AP Dhillon Career

Dhillon made his debut in 2019 with the single “Fake” with Shinda Kahlon, released under Run-Up Records, their own independent label. Later, he made an appearance in the music video for Gurinder Gill and Shinda Kahlon’s song “Faraar,” where he was given credit as producer.

His collaboration with producer Gminxr on the song “Deadly” debuted at number 11 on the Official Charts Company’s UK Asian chart in 2020. The song also peaked at number five on the UK Punjabi chart. Alongside Gurinder Gill, his subsequent track “Droptop” also made an appearance in the UK Asian and UK Punjabi charts. He worked with Gurinder Gill and Manni Sandhu on the song “Majhail” in June 2020; it became their best performance to date and topped the UK Asian and Punjabi charts.

He and Gurinder Gill had an appearance on “Excuses” by Intense in July 2020; the song peaked at number three on UK Asian and at the top of the UK Punjabi chart. He released “Brown Munde” with Gurinder Gill, Gminxr, and Shinda Kahlon in September 2020. In the music video, Nav, Sidhu Moose Wala, Money Musik, Anmol Dalwani, and Steel Banglez made appearances. The song was added to the Canadian Apple Music chart. The song scored his second number one on the chart when it debuted at the top of the UK Asian chart.

AP Dhillon and Gurinder Gill & Money Musik produced their debut collaborative EP, Not by Chance, in 2020. The EP’s seven tracks all made it into the NZ charts and reached the top five in the UK’s Official Punjabi Music chart.

The “Over The Top – The Takeover Tour” featured live performances by AP Dhillon and his group in six major Indian cities in 2021. Dhillon and Boat collaborate to build brand recognition.Fall 2021 saw the release of Dhillon’s “Hidden Gems” EP, a collaboration with Gurinder Gill and Gminxr.

Dhillon worked with Amazon Prime Video in 2022 to promote The Boys (season 3), and in the trailer, he cues a unique version of his song “Insane.” Dhillon’s successful song “Summer High” made him the first artist from Punjab to play at the 2023 Juno Awards in Edmonton, Canada.
