Playback singer Antara Mitra was born in India on July 10, 1987. When Mitra entered the popular singing reality show Indian Idol 2 in 2006, she shot to fame. Antara Mitra gained fame and increased her profile following the publication of her Arijit Singh duets, Gerua and Janam Janam.
Her performance of the Dilwale songs garnered her a great deal of attention from the Indian media as well. Her Bhaijaan Elo Re song “Baby Jaan” broke the record for the fastest Bengali language video to reach one million views on YouTube because to the amazing response it garnered.

Mitra comes from Maslandapur, a tiny Indian village in West Bengal that is close to Kolkata. Since her father teaches music, Mitra was surrounded by music when she was growing up. Mitra took part in the second season of Indian Idol. Despite making it to the top five, she was eliminated. Famous music director Anu Malik offered Mitra playback singing job after she was eliminated from the competition, but she chose to return home and move to Mumbai in April 2006 to pursue a career in vocal performances for motion picture soundtracks.

She then competed in another well-known Indian TV reality show, Junoon – Kuchh Kar Dikhaane Ka, as a member of the Bollywood team of vocalist contestants. Although she did not win this time either, she views both shows as educational and career-development opportunities, and she thanked the producers, judges, and TV viewers for giving her the chance to perform live for the judges and broadcast audience.
Antara Mitra was able to make ends meet in her early days in a place like Mumbai by eating cheap foods like Maggi and hamburger. Nearly nine years after moving to Mumbai, in 2015, Mitra’s duet songs Gerua and Janam Janam were blockbusters, catapulting her into national prominence as a vocalist.

In a 2010 interview with the Times of India, Mitra praised and conveyed her thanks to Pritam Chakraborty, the music director, for being the first to believe in her abilities. During that initial decade, Pritam had written almost all of the songs in films that featured her singing. Mitra’s debut popular song, “Bheegi Bhaagi Si,” a duet with Mohit Chauhan from the Hindi movie Rajneeti, garnered favorable reviews.
