Born on October 30, 1958, Abhijeet Bhattacharya, or simply Abhijeet, is an Indian playback singer who sings mostly in the Hindi film industry. Abhijeet Bhattacharya has performed in Hindi as well as Marathi, Nepali, Tamil, Bhojpuri, Punjabi, Odia, and Bengali, which is his native tongue, in both West Bengal and Bangladesh. In more than a thousand films, Abhijeet has sung 6034 songs. In 2014, he received a nomination for the Forbes Popular 100 Indian Celebrity list.

Abhijeet was born in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, the youngest child of news editor Dheerendranath Bhattacharya and his wife Kamla Bhattacharya, a Bengali Brahmin family. In 1977, he received his commerce degree (B.Com.) from Christ Church College in Kanpur. He began performing live in 1970. In 1981, he moved out of his family to seek a career as a Bollywood singer. R. D. Burman introduced him with a duet song with Asha Bhosle in a Bengali movie.In the beginning of his career, he performed on stage with R. D. In 2008, Abhijeet served as a judge in the Zed TV reality show Ek Se Badhkar Ek, which starred choreographer Ahmed Khan and Ravi Kishan as the anchor.The concept of the show was combining various skills. Along with playback singer Alka Yagnik, music director Bappi Lahiri, and anchor Shaan, Abhijeet served as a judge on Zed TV’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Lil Champs in 2009. During Saregamapa Lil Champs Bangla 2010, Abhijeet and his Baaghi co-singer Kavita Krishnamurti served as judges on Zed Bangla TV.The concept of the reality programme was to bring gifted vocalist children from WB districts.

In 2020, he made a reappearance as a judge on Star Jalsha’s reality series SuperSinger. Next, on the Colours Bangla channel in 2021, alongside Sangeeter Mahayuddho.Composer Jeet Ganguly of Aashiqui 2 and vocalist Ustad Rashid Khan were among the other judges. He was present as a special guest on Saregamapa Zed TV in 2023 and Indian Idol in 2022.Recently, in recognition of his contributions to the film industry, he attended Indian Idol 2024 on Sony TV.
