Rajat Sharma, an Indian journalist and businessman, was born on February 18, 1957. He currently serves as chairman and chief editor of India TV, an Indian news channel. Sharma gained notoriety for his work on the television programme Aap Ki Adalat, when he conducted in-court interviews with politicians and celebrities.

Rajat Sharma Childhood

Sharma was born into a Brahmin family on February 18, 1957, in Sabzi Mandi, Delhi. Rajat Sharma was raised by his sister and six brothers. Rajat Sharma attended Ramjas School for his education. After graduating from Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) to pursue his postgraduate studies, he joined Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad.In 1977, he was chosen to serve as the Delhi University Students Union’s general secretary.

Rajat Sharma wed Ritu Dhawan in 1997.

He was employed as a researcher by Janardan Thakur, a journalist who had recently left Ananda Bazar Patrika to launch a new syndicated column, following the completion of his Master’s degree (M Com).

He then began working as a trainee at Onlooker Magazine, rising to the position of editor in 1985. Rajat Sharma had moved to Mumbai by this point. He worked as an editor at Onlooker for three years before moving on to Sunday Observer and then The Daily once more.

When he happened to run with Zed TV’s Subhash Chandra in 1992 while travelling to Delhi, the idea for Aap Ki Adalat emerged during a lighthearted discussion. The first episode of Aap Ki Adalat, which starred former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Yadav, was filmed on Zed TV in 1993. Aap Ki Adalat recently marked 21 years of broadcast, making it the longest-running show in Indian television history. Rajat Sharma has interviewed over 750 guests on his show. Rajat Sharma is also the host of India TV’s prime-time programme Aaj Ki Baat.

Rajat Sharma served as the Delhi Cricket Association’s president. However, he left his position after just one month, alleging a number of “pulls and pressures” and corruption.
