Indian squash player Dipika Pallikal (née Pallikal) was born on September 21, 1991. In the PSA Women’s rankings, she is the first Indian to enter the top 10. When Dipika Pallikal won three WISPA tour titles in 2011, she gained notoriety. In December of 2012, she debuted in the top 10.

Dipika Pallikal won the Orange County Open in Irvine, California, in September, securing the first of her three WISPA titles for 2011. Dipika Pallikal won another WISPA tour event, marking her second triumph in the US. After her third-place finish in the Crocodile Challenge Cup in Hong Kong in December 2011, she rose to the 17th spot in the world rankings. But it was her World Open performance that catapulted her into the spotlight. She received a top eight finish. As a result of her wins in February 2012, she declared a rating of 14, exceeding the previous greatest global ranking held by an Indian, which was 27th in 1995 by the former national champion Misha Grewal.
When she advanced to the final of the Tournament of Champions squash competition in New York in January 2012, she became the first Indian to ever reach the summit showdown of a Silver tournament. Dipika Pallikal advanced much farther that August of the same year, being the first Indian player to make it to the semifinals of the 2012 Australian Open, a gold event.

The Indian squash team that placed fifth in the 2012 Women’s World Team Squash Championships had Deepika Pallikal as a key member. Despite having a difficult start to the year, she returned to the top of the Women’s Squash Association (WSA) rankings in February 2014. Dipika Pallikal and Joshna Chinappa won the gold medal in the women’s doubles squash competition at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, giving India its first-ever medal in the history of the event. After winning the Winter Club Open in January 2015, Pallikal secured her tenth Tour title.

Dipika Pallikal competed for the Indian Women’s team that won a gold medal at the South Asian Games in February 2016. Then, in April, she lost in the opening round of the PSA Women’s World Championship 2016. Dipika Pallikal competed for India’s women’s team in the Asian Team Championship in Taipei, where they won a silver medal.

Pallikal Karthik participated from August 2016 onwards under her married name for the 2016–17 PSA Season after competing under her maiden name, Pallikal, till 2016. Dipika Pallikal maintained her strong form after winning her second Indian national title (see below), taking up her 11th PSA trophy in August of 2016.
Between 2012 and 2015, Pallikal Karthik declined to compete in the National Championship Squash because of the unequal prize structure, which paid the women’s champion only 40% of the money won by the men.
