Actress Maitreyi Ramakrishnan was born on December 28, 2001. She is well-known for her voice work in the Pixar picture Turning Red (2022) and for playing the lead part of Devi Vishwakumar, a high school student, in the Netflix teen comedy series Never Have I Ever (2020–2023).

Using her mother’s camera, Ramakrishnan recorded her audition tape at a nearby library. She was then requested to submit four more films, had a screen test in Los Angeles, and was given the job.
At the time of her casting, Ramakrishnan was 17 years old and had no prior acting experience. In an interview, she disclosed that she was inspired to pursue an acting profession as a child by seeing Indian actor Vijay in the Tamil film Pokkiri.

In an effort to advance gender equality and the rights of women and girls, Ramakrishnan joined the humanitarian organisation Plan International Canada as a global ambassador in October 2020. She starred in the #NoColdShoulder campaign for clothing company Nobis in 2021. The campaign’s main goal is to gather and donate discarded jackets every November.
