Javelin thrower Sumit Antil Biography, Wiki

Sumit Antil is an Indian paralympian javelin thrower who was born on June 7, 1998. Both in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics and the 2024 Paris Paralympics, he took home the gold in the men’s javelin throw F64 event. Both times, he threw a new Paralympic record of 68.55 meters and 70.59 meters, respectively. His two gold medals from the World Para Championships are confirmed.

In 2022, Antil set a new world record for the para-javelin with a throw of 73.29 meters in addition to winning the gold medal at the Asian Para Games. Sumit Antil has held six world records.

Family

Antil was born to Niramala Devi and Ram Kumar Antil in Khewra, Sonipat, Haryana. When he was seven years old, his father, an Indian Air Force employee, went away. His mother encouraged him to start playing sports following his injury. Sushila, Renu, and Kiran are his three sisters. Accident was born into the Tomar Jat subclan, the Antil clan.

He desired to enlist in the Indian Army and pursue a career in wrestling. When he was seventeen years old in 2015, a speeding truck struck his motorcycle as he was riding home from a tuition class. He was forced to give up on his dream of being a wrestler and have his left leg amputated as a result.

When he was studying his B.Com. at Ramjas College of Delhi University, after finishing his secondary studies at Dev Rishi Senior Secondary School, Sonipat, he was introduced to para-athletics by another para-athlete, Rajkumar.

Antil began training with Nitin Jaiswal in Delhi in 2017 and participated in competitions on both national and international stages. Sumit Antil started participating on the national circuit in javelin, and in 2019 GoSports accepted him into the Para Champions Program.[Reference required]

He set a world record in the F64 category in 2019 at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Italy, which helped him earn the Silver medal in the Combined Event. At the World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai in 2019, he went on to win the Silver Medal and set a new world record in the F64 category.

At the 2020 Summer Paralympics, Antil set a world record in the javelin throw F64, winning a gold medal on August 30, 2021. Antil broke his personal best of 68.55 meters and rewrote the world record for the fourth time in a year while competing at the Indian Open National Para Athletics Championships. Surprisingly, three of these milestones were set in the Tokyo Paralympics final on the way to capturing gold. At the 2024 Summer Paralympics, Antil won the gold medal once more on September 2, 2024, as she threw the javelin throw F64 for a new Paralympic record of 70.59 meters.
