Irrfan Khan, was born Sahabzade Irfan Ali Khan and lived from January 7, 1967, to April 29, 2020, was an Indian actor who performed in both British and American films and Indian cinema. Generally acknowledged as one of the best actors in international film, Over the course of his 30-year career, Khan won multiple awards, including six Filmfare Awards, an Asian Film Award, and a National Film Award. The fourth-highest civilian award in India, the Padma Shri, was given to him in 2011. He received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award posthumously in 2021.
Khan struggled for years after landing a small role in Salaam Bombay! (1988), his film debut. He acted in a few student films produced by the Film and Television Institute of India, including the 1990 Sandeep Chattopadhyay-directed Reconnaissance. Khan was born into a Muslim household with Pathan origin on January 7, 1967, in Tonk, Rajasthan. Saeeda Begum Khan, Khan’s mother, was from Tonk, and Yaseen Ali Khan, Khan’s father, was from Khajuriya village in the Tonk area of Rajasthan. Together, the Khan family operated a tyre business. After growing up in Tonk, he moved to Jaipur. Because of his skill in the game, Irrfan was chosen to compete in the CK Nayudu Trophy for developing players in the under-23 division, which is regarded as a prelude to Indian first-class cricket. He discarded his first name “Irfan” in favour of “Irrfan” in 2012, claiming he like the way the extra “r” sounded. Later, he removed the “Khan” from his name because, as he stated in a 2016 interview, he wanted his accomplishments to characterise him rather than his ancestry.

He disclosed the news of his neuroendocrine cancer diagnosis on Twitter in March 2018. He spent a year receiving treatment in the UK before going back to India in February 2019. Khan was 53 years old when he passed away on April 29, 2020, in Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. On April 28, 2020, he was admitted and began treatment for a colon infection brought on by the illness. Saeeda Begum, his ninety-three-year-old mother, had passed away in Jaipur four days before.
