In addition to winning seven Filmfare awards, his directing debut, Udaan (2010), was chosen to compete in the Un Certain Regard category at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival. On July 5, 2013, the big-budget Bollywood period romance Lootera, his second movie, was released. On March 17, 2017, his third movie, a survival drama starring Rajkummar Rao, was released in theaters. On June 1, 2018, Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, his fourth movie, was released in theaters. The first Indian series on Netflix, Sacred Games, was created by Motwane. His movie AK versus. AK was released in 2020. Mr. Motwane is on the Mumbai Academy of the Moving Image board of directors.

His mother is Bengali, and his father is Sindhi. Vikramaditya Motwane is wed to photographer Ishika Mohan, who played Rohan’s mother in his film debut, Udaan.

Vikramaditya Motwane Career

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s longtime assistant Motwane worked with him on the films Devdas (2002) and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999). He choreographed Deepa Mehta’s Academy Award-nominated film Water (2005) and helmed the song sequences in Anurag Kashyap’s unreleased film Paanch (2003).

On July 16, 2010, Motwane’s first feature film, Udaan (2010), was released for Anurag Kashyap’s production company, Anurag Kashyap Films. The film received seven Filmfare awards, including the Best Filmfare Critics’ Award and the Best Director Award at the 2011 Star Screen Awards. On July 5, 2013, Motwane’s second movie, Lootera, a historical romance, was released.

Trapped, a survival drama, was Motwane’s third film. On October 26, 2016, the movie had its international premiere at the Mumbai Film Festival, where it was well-received and gave rise to a standing ovation. The movie received overwhelmingly positive reviews when it debuted in theaters on March 17, 2017. Additionally, the film was honored with the 2017 Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival Award for “Best Asian Film.”

Based on the same-titled Vikram Chandra novel, Motwane co-directed and created the first Indian series for the American streaming service Netflix, “Sacred Games.” After receiving positive reviews, Netflix decided to order a second season of the show. Phantom Films, a film production business that was co-owned by Motwane, Anurag Kashyap, Madhu Mantena, and Vikas Bahl, disbanded in 2018.

It was revealed in June 2020 that Motwane will be creating a web series based on the non-fiction book Black Warrant, published in 2019. His production business, Andolan Films, and writer-journalist Josy Joseph’s Confluence Media have jointly purchased the rights.
