Lakshya Sen is an Indian badminton player who was born on August 16, 2001. Sen was formerly the top junior in the world. In the boys’ singles division at the 2018 Asian Junior Championships and the mixed team division at the Summer Youth Olympics, he has won gold medals. Lakshya Sen finished second in the 2022 All England Open and took home the bronze medal at the 2021 World Championships.

2016
Sen had demonstrated his badminton skill at a very young age, having trained at the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy. He took home the title of Swiss Junior International in 2014, and in 2016, he excelled in the junior badminton scene. At the Junior Asian Championship, he won the bronze medal despite falling to Sun Feixiang 12–21, 16–21. Sen coincidentally fell to Sun once more in the Junior World Championship preliminary rounds, falling to him 21–17, 8–21, and 13–21. In the team competition, his squad placed eighth. Sen went on to play at the senior international level, where he emerged victorious in the 2016 India International Series men’s singles championship.
2017
Sen began his career in Syed Modi International, where he was defeated 14–21, 16–21 by fellow countryman Sourabh Verma in the pre-quarterfinals. In February 2017, Sen rose to the top of the BWF World Junior rankings for junior singles players. Sen was ranked first at the Junior Asian Championship, however he fell to Lin Chun-yi 21–13, 23–25, and 20–22 in the preliminary round. Sen advanced to the Vietnam Open quarterfinals, but was defeated 21–17, 21–23, and 10–21 by Kodai Naraoka. Sen was then seeded second at the Junior World Championship, but he fell to Kodai Naraoka 21–14, 17–21, 14–21 in the quarterfinals.
2018

At the New Zealand Open, Sen upset a much higher ranked player in Cheam June Wei, winning straight games 21–11, 21–16. However, he lost to Lin Dan, the top seed and two-time Olympic gold medallist, 21–15, 15–21, and 12–21. during the Australian Open. Lee Cheuk Yiu, the seventh seed, defeated him 20–22, 21–13, and 19–21. Sen defeated the top-seeded World Junior No. 1 Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the championship match to win the 2018 Asian Junior Championships 21–19, 21–18.
Lakshya Sen fell to Heo Kwang-hee, the eighth seed, 13–21 and 12–21 at the Hyderabad Open. Sen lost to seed No. 7 Lin Yu-hsien in the quarterfinals of the 2018 Bangka Belitung Indonesia Masters after defeating seed No. 2 Sitthikom Thammasin 21–14, 21–19 in the prelims.
Sen was the fourth-seeded competitor in the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics. After dropping straight games, 15–21, 19–21, against Chinese player Li Shifeng, he was content to take home the silver medal in boys’ singles. In the mixed team competition, he took part and contributed to team Alpha’s gold medal.
At the BWF Junior World Championships, Sen won the bronze medal after falling to Kunlavut Vitidsarn, the eventual champion, 22–20, 16–21, 13–21 in the semi-finals.
2019
Sen defeated Victor Svendsen 21–14 and 21–15 to win the Belgian International competition in 2019. Sen defeated Japan’s Yusuke Onodera to win the men’s singles title in the Dutch Open, earning his maiden BWF Tour championship. One BWF Tour Super 100 event is the Dutch Open. He emerged victorious at the SaarLorLux Open, a BWF Tour Super 100 competition that took place in Saarbrücken, Germany, in November 2019. To win the title, he overcame Weng Hongyang of China in the championship match.

Lakshya Sen defeated Brazilian Ygor Coelho in November to win the men’s singles championship at the 2019 Scottish Open.
2020
Sen participated in the Indian squad that won the bronze medal at the Badminton Asia Team Championships in 2020.
Sen advanced to the second round of the 2020 All England Open—his first-ever BWF Super 1000 Tournament—but was defeated 17–21 and 18–21 by world No. 1 Viktor Axelsen. In the second round of the 2020 Denmark Open, he was defeated by Hans-Kristian Vittinghus 21–15, 7–21, and 15–21. Sen withdrew from the 2020 SaarLorLux Open with an injury, despite having the second seed. He was unable to participate in any further international BWF Tournaments this year due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.
2021
He advanced to the semifinals of the World Championships in December, but ultimately had to settle for a bronze medal after losing to fellow countryman Srikanth Kidambi in a fierce match that ended 21–17, 14–21, and 17–21.
2022
Lakshya Sen won his first Super 500 championship in January by defeating Loh Kean Yew, the current world champion, in the India Open final. In two successive games, he won 24–22 and 21–17. Lakshya fell to Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the German Open finals despite defeating World No. 1 Viktor Axelsen in the semifinals. To get to the 2022 All England Open finals, he then overcame World No. 3 Anders Antonsen and World No. 7 Lee Zii Jia. Viktor Axelsen defeated him in the finals, 10–21, 15–21.
After competing in two consecutive BWF tournament finals, he then withdrew from the Swiss Open due to exhaustion. Lakshya Sen was a member of the Indian men’s Thomas Cup team in 2022. Sen prevailed in his match against Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, and the team went on to win the Thomas Cup by defeating Indonesia 3-0. He defeated Malaysia’s Ng Tze Yong in the championship match to win the Commonwealth title at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Sen participated in the Indian mixed team event that resulted in a silver medal.
2023
Lakshya Sen competed for the Indian team that won the bronze medal in the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships in February.
On July 9, Lakshya Sen won the 2023 Canada Open in Calgary, Canada, defeating Li Shifeng of China in straight sets, 21-18, 22-20. Sen competed for India in the men’s team competition at the 2022 Asian Games, where the team took home a silver medal.
2024
Sen was a competitor at the Paris Olympic Games. He advanced to the knockout round by defeating Jonatan Christie, the third-seeded player, in the group stage. He upset his countryman Prannoy H. S. in the round of 16, and then he triumphed against Chou Tien-chen in the quarterfinals. But in the semifinals, Viktor Axelsen, the second-seeded player, stopped him. After losing to Lee Zii Jia in the bronze medal match, he went on to finish fourth, setting a record for the best result by a male badminton player from his nation.
