Indian actor Adarsh Gourav Bhagavatula was born in 1994 and is well-known for his roles in television shows and films in both Hindi and English. In the drama film My Name Is Khan (2010), Gourav made his acting debut. His role as chauffeur Balram Halwai in the satirical film The White Tiger (2021) made him famous and earned him nominations for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead and the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role.

Adarsh Gourav Childhood And Schooling
In Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, Adarsh Gourav Bhagavatula was born into a Telugu-speaking family. His mother, Padmavati Bhagavatula, is from Vizianagaram in Andhra Pradesh, and his father, Satishnarayana Bhagavatula, is from the Srikakulam area. Gourav was raised in Jamshedpur and attended Jamshedpur’s Loyola School. After that, he relocated to Mumbai, where he attended Narsee Monjee College.
The family chose to move to Mumbai in 2007 upon the transfer of Gourav’s father, who worked for The Central Bank of India. Adarsh Gourav attended the Podar High School in Lilavatibai. Adarsh Gourav was asked whether he wanted to pursue acting after being noticed while singing at the 2007 Kala Ghoda Arts Festival. The only reason he consented was because he was thrilled to be on TV. Adarsh Gourav was chosen to play the younger Shahrukh Khan in the movie My Name is Khan following a year of auditions. Gourav studied Hindustani classical music with several gurus for nine years. Raell Padamsee’s theatre company scouted him to sing. He sung the soundtracks to films such as Chal Chalein and Black and White. Despite having started his acting career at the age of 14, Adarsh took acting seriously after he was chosen to play a lead role in the John Abraham Entertainment- and Sajid Ali-directed film “Banana”. He collaborated with Anurag Kashyap on his anthology short film “Clean Shaven” alongside Radhika Apte while he was in his last year of studies at Narsee Monjee College of Commerce.

The next year, he was cast as one of the antagonists in Sridevi’s Mom and as the lead in Rukh with Manoj Bajpayee . In 2016, he took a hiatus and enrolled in The Drama School Mumbai to hone his craft. He participated in the TVF production Hostel Daze and the Amazon production “Die Trying” after graduating from college. In the Paul Goodwin-directed NCPA production “Lucrece” in 2017, he also portrayed Prince Tarquin. He collaborated with Deepa Mehta, an Academy Award contender, on her Netflix series Leila in 2018.
He had been looking for acting job for a few months when he received a call for an audition for The White Tiger. Everyone has praised his performance as Balram Halwai in the Netflix movie, calling him the “star of Ramin Bahrani’s film”. Variety called it a “small marvel,” and the Evening Standard said that Gourav is “nuanced and utterly engaging as Balram Halwai, a bright peasant who morphs from lickspittle chauffeur into something more ruthless.” Gourav received two nominations for his performance: one for the BAFTA for Best Actor and one for the Film Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead.

Along with Taaruk Raina and Prajakta Koli, he was a part of Audible’s Desi Down Under audio series in May 2023. The narrative takes place in Sydney and centres on three Mangalore natives, ages 20, who travel to Australia to train as surf lifeguards at Coogee Beach. After this, Gourav acted in the coming-of-age movie Kho Gaye Hum Kahan, which was directed by rookie Arjun Varain Singh, with Siddhant Chaturvedi and Ananya Panday.
