Swara Bhasker is well renowned for her leading parts in independent films and supporting work in mainstream productions. Swara made her big screen debut in the critically panned drama Madholal Keep Walking (2009). On April 9, 1988 , in Delhi, Swara Bhasker was born into a family consisting of C. Uday Bhaskar, an Indian Navy officer of Telugu descent, and his wife Ira Bhaskar, a Bihari-origin professor of cinema studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi. Varanasi was home to her maternal grandparents.
Bhasker was educated at Sardar Patel Vidyalaya while growing up in Delhi . After that, she attended Miranda House at Delhi University to study English literature, where she was enrolled alongside actress Minissha Lamba. Bhasker was a member of Delhi’s “Act One” theatre troupe, led by N. K. Sharma, prior to her career as an actress. After moving to Mumbai in 2008, she acted in her first film, Madholal Keep Walking (2009), which had a poor box office run in India despite being featured at the 33rd Cairo International Film Festival. After that, she appeared in Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai’s drama Guzaarish (2010) with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in a supporting role.

After that, Bhasker starred in The Untitled Kartik Krishnan Project, a black and white thriller directed by Srinivas Sunderrajan. Samvidhaan, a television miniseries by Shyam Benegal centred on the creation of the Indian Constitution, was hosted by Bhasker. From March to May of 2014, Rajya Sabha TV aired the series . In April 2015, Bhasker made an appearance as a guest on the Pakistani TV comedy programme Mazaaq Raat while she was in Lahore, Pakistan.
In 2015, Bhasker released three albums. In the romantic comedy-drama Tanu Weds Manu Returns, a follow-up to the 2011 film Tanu Weds Manu, she played Payal once more in her debut role. High praise was given to the movie and Bhasker’s performance by critics. The movie was a commercial hit as well, going on to become one of the few female-focused films to feature among the highest-grossing Indian productions.
In 2016, Bhasker portrayed the lead role in Nil Battey Sannata, Anand L. Rai’s comedic drama. This was Rai’s fourth project with Bhasker. Bhasker’s initial doubts about the movie stemmed from the age gap between her and her role. But after reading the script, she had second thoughts and decided to play a teenage mother. After the movie’s premiere, critics praised both the movie and Bhasker’s performance, and in September 2015, the Silk Road International Film Festival presented her with the Best Actress prize. Her first web series project was It’s Not That Simple, a streaming service on Viacom 18 called Voot. The concept of marriage, relationships, and a woman’s place in a marriage are central to the show.
As of 2013, Bhasker had wrapped up filming Abbas Tyrewala’s comedy drama Mango, which was produced by Kaleidoscope Entertainment and starred Chandan Roy Sanyal and Monali Thakur. The movie has been postponed indefinitely.
In the romantic comedy Veere Di Wedding (2018), directed by Shashanka Ghosh and starring Kareena Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, and Shikha Talsania, she also portrayed the primary character of four girls who travel from Delhi to Europe. The film’s sequence where she uses a vibrator to masturbate received accolades for its honest depiction of women’s sexuality. Swara Bhasker was nominated for a third time for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress because of her work in the movie.
2019–present: A decrease in one’s career
Alongside Meher Vij, Pooja Chopra, and Shikha Talsania, Bhasker appeared in the female buddy movie Jahaan Chaar Yaar, which was released on September 16, 2023. The movie was a commercial failure.[Reference required]
