Born on March 21, 1978, Rani Mukerji is an Indian actress that appears in Hindi films. Known for her adaptability, Rani Mukerji has won numerous awards, including seven Filmfare Awards. Mukerji has been listed among the 2000s’ highest-paid actresses.

Raised in the Mukherjee-Samarth family, Mukerji first tried her hand at acting as a teenager, appearing in the social drama Raja Ki Aayegi Baaraat (1996) and the Bengali-language film Biyer Phool, directed by her father Ram Mukherjee. In 1998, Mukerji made her breakthrough with the romance Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and enjoyed her first financial triumph with the action movie Ghulam. After a short setback, she experienced a sea change in 2002 when Yash Raj Films cast her as the lead in the drama Saathiya.

Due to her father’s declining health, Mukerji ultimately decided not to attend the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, where she was scheduled to participate alongside Sabyasachi Mukherjee and Karan Johar.
