Mouni Roy is an Indian actress who predominantly appears in Hindi-language films and television shows (born 28 September 1985). With the television programme Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, she made her acting debut in 2006.

After playing a serpent that could take on different forms in the supernatural movie Naagin and its follow-up Naagin 2, Mouni Roy rose to the position of one of the highest-paid Hindi television actresses. Mouni Roy has been nominated for two Filmfare Awards and has won other accolades, including an IIFA Award and two ITA Awards.

With the 2011 Punjabi romance drama Hero Hitler in Love, mouni Roy made her acting debut. Mouni Roy made her Hindi cinema debut with the 2018 historical sports drama Gold, for which she was nominated for a Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. Mouni Roy won the IIFA Award for Best Supporting Actress and was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Junoon in the fantasy action-adventure Brahmstra: Part One – Shiva (2022), which garnered strong reviews.

Mouni Roy was born on September 28, 1985, into a Rajbongshi family in Cooch Behar, West Bengal[3]. Shekhar Chandra Roy, her grandpa, was a well-known Jatra theatre performer. Her father Anil Roy worked as the office supervisor of the Cooch Behar Zilla Parishad, while her mother Mukti was a theatre performer. She attended the Kendriya Vidyalaya at Baburhat, Cooch Behar, for her final year of high school before moving to Delhi.

On the advice of her parents, she enrolled in a public communication study at Jamia Milia Islamia, but she dropped out halfway through and moved to Mumbai to try her luck in the Hindi film industry. She completed her part 1 exams but left Delhi afterward. Since she was a little girl, Mouni has been interested in acting. She lists Madhubala, Madhuri Dixit, and Waheeda Rehman as her acting role models.

Mouni Roy Initial Appearance And Career (2006–2010)

In the Ekta Kapoor drama Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi in 2006, Roy made her acting debut as Krishna Tulsi, co-starring alongside Pulkit Samrat and Akashdeep Saigal. She subsequently took part in and won Zara Nachke Dikha’s inaugural season. Then, in Kasturi, she played Shivani Sabharwal. Mouni Roy took part in Pati Patni Aur Woh in 2008. In Do Saheliyaan (2010), Roy starred opposite Jatin Shah as Roop.

Mouni Roy featured in the Punjabi movie Hero Hitler in Love in 2011. Mouni Roy rose to stardom in Life OK’s mythological serial Devon Ke Dev…Mahadev, which aired from 2011 to 2014 and starred Mohit Raina as Sati. She also starred as Meera alongside Aditya Redij in Life OK’s Junoon – Aisi Nafrat Toh Kaisa Ishq in 2013 during that time. Together with Punit Pathak, Roy competed in the dance reality competition on Colours Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 7 in 2014, placing fourth overall.

Alongside Arjun Bijlani, Mouni Roy made a comeback to television in 2015 with Ekta Kapoor’s spooky serial Naagin, playing Shivanya. Mouni Roy became well-known outside of India because to the series, which topped the TRP charts. She joined the Mumbai Tigers team of Bijlani in the Box Cricket League. Mouni Roy acted as host of the &TV dance competition So You Think You Can Dance.

In 2017, Mouni Roy played a dual role alongside Karanvir Bohra in Naagin’s second season.
